Siod reassured on behalf of Larisa, breaking the silence.
“But still, a man should judge a man.”
“Is that so?”
William reflected on it, and Hadel nodded.
“I’m worried because the tutor put too much money into Larisa’s dowry fund. There might be some troublemakers trying to take advantage.”
“It’s strange not to worry when entering the Knight Academy, where only guys are buzzing around, all because of Mother.”
William sighed and spoke, and Ginevra’s eyes widened again.
“You need good stamina to live a long life!”
“Stamina can be built through horseback riding or dancing….”
“William, I’ve decided to go.”
William closed his mouth at Larisa’s firm tone.
“If you had a half-hearted attitude, you would have definitely fallen. I worked desperately for it.”
“…I understand.”
So, why he was making desperate efforts was a mystery to him. William swallowed a sigh internally.
In his opinion, Larisa might be doing it because she couldn’t defy her mother’s opinion.
Ginevra, unaware of her son’s thoughts, extolled the advantages of the Knight Academy.
“It’s not bad to cultivate stamina, learn martial arts, and have one more way to protect yourself in case of an emergency.”
“I think so too.”
Larisa responded with a playful smile.
Choosing a major that put her future at stake just to learn self-defense and things like martial arts seemed absurd.
Ginevra cast a Latte spell.
“A wizard should know how to protect themselves even on the battlefield. If you die before finishing your spellcasting, you’ll be useless. That’s why I learned swordsmanship before becoming a wizard.”
“Impressive, Mother.”
“Lara, keep this in mind. We’ll protect you, but you should also know how to protect yourself.”
“Yes, I’ll keep that in mind!”
Ginevra felt proud. William, feeling the burn inside, downed his glass in one shot. His mother was undoubtedly unaware of the problem.
“Lara, you’re not going to become a knight anyway.”
Upon William’s words, Larisa fell silent this time.
“If your mother told you to go to the Wizardry Faculty, you would have found a way to get in.”
“….”
“No?”
Ginevra intervened without sensing the mood.
“Why would I tell Lara to go to the Wizardry Faculty?”
“Vera, that’s not what we were talking about.”
Siod, desperate to change the topic, vigorously shook his head. Ginevra, startled, turned to Hédel, who was also nodding.
In the end, Ginevra quietly closed her mouth and began to observe the reactions of the two children. When Larisa, who had been silent, suddenly stood up and said, “I’ll go to bed first.”
“Lara, aren’t you going to eat dessert?”
“I don’t have an appetite. Teacher, please have mine.”
As Larisa swiftly left, William sighed. Doing a dry wash on his face while still seated, William said, “I’ll go too.” As William also disappeared through teleportation, only Ginevra, Siod, and Hédel remained in the dining room.
With a serious expression, Ginevra spoke, “What was that conversation about?”
Hédel, with a face that clearly didn’t want to get involved, said, “I’m already exhausted just dealing with those wizard guys. Let the kids handle it themselves.”
After that, Hédel also disappeared through teleportation.
“…What did I do wrong?”
“No, you didn’t do anything wrong, but…”
“But why did the situation turn out like this?”
Ginevra genuinely couldn’t understand this situation. Just when she thought the kids were fighting amongst themselves, suddenly William began to blame her.
“William is… Well, he’s worried because it seems like Larisa is too influenced by your opinions.”
“I haven’t forced her to do anything.”
“Yeah. But Larisa seems to react sensitively to your words. That’s why he’s worried.”
Ginevra felt unjust. She wanted to give Larisa anything good.
When Larisa graduates from the best Knight Academy in Arendia, wouldn’t she gain the strength to protect herself?
“It’s not that your advice is bad. It’s just that I’m also concerned that Larisa, who is at the age to nurture her dreams, seems to be too eager to follow the opinions of adults.”
Siod tapped the end of the table as he spoke.
‘Dreams? Is he talking about future aspirations?’
Ginevra thought about what dreams she had when she was around 14. First and foremost, she wanted to win in the war. She hoped the tiresome war would end, and she kept hoping, only to find that her teenage years had come to an end.
“Dreams… When I was your age, talking about that seemed like a luxury.”
“Vera. If you say that somewhere else, they’ll call you old-fashioned.”
“What’s old-fashioned?”
“The person kids hate the most…”
Ginevra was shocked.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
