Mother-in-Law Refuses to Regress! (7 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 7
Guinevere was pondering in front of the hole William had made.
‘Should I get rid of it all? Or leave it?’
She never even dreamed William was thinking of running away. Well, she knew he wanted to leave—but she assumed it was because of Larisa, not that he’d planned to leave the house even before meeting her….
‘What on earth is the reason?’
William already loathed this house enough to drill seven holes like this.
‘What should I do?’
She couldn’t just lock her son up and raise him like that; she had to solve the root problem. That meant first figuring out why William wanted to run away.
Yet Guinevere had no idea what the problem was. Her mind was blank as white paper, utterly devoid of thoughts.
“What did I do wrong?”
“Huh?”
Hedel, who had informed Guinevere about the hole, instinctively replied.
“Is there something I did wrong?”
“What’s wrong?”
Hedel looked at the hole Guinevere was glaring at. It was astonishingly intricate for something made by a boy barely fourteen.
But that was all—Guinevere saw nothing wrong with it at all. Just as Hedel was scrutinizing the hole, wondering if he’d missed something—
“Why on earth does he want to run away?”
“Oh, that’s what this is about.”
Hedel smiled faintly. He’d been worried there might be something he didn’t know, but apparently not. He spoke dismissively.
“Isn’t it obvious? He probably hates magic.”
“Hates magic?”
Guinevere was utterly bewildered.
“Why would he hate magic?”
“Because he can’t do it.”
“If he can’t… shouldn’t he just try harder to get better?”
Hedel gave a bitter smile.
“If he hates magic, he won’t want to put in any effort.”
“Then why does he hate it so much?”
Throughout her not-so-short life, if there was one absolute truth in Guinevere’s existence, it was magic. Magic had lifted her from the slums to noble status. Magic was the only thing that never betrayed her, rewarding every ounce of effort she gave.
“Maybe because no matter how hard he tries, he’ll never surpass you, Lady Guinevere?”
Guinevere stared hollowly at the hole, then turned away without touching it.
“Are you really just going to leave it like this?”
“Yes.”
Getting rid of a silly hole like this wouldn’t change William’s mind. She herself needed to change.
“I suppose I should just tell him not to do it if he hates it so much.”
She couldn’t let him kill himself again.
“What brought on this sudden change of heart? I thought you’d never give up.”
“Did I say that?”
“You did. You said it made no sense for the son of the Archwitch Rodante to fail at even the simplest magic until the very end, remember?”
She had. William wasn’t talentless—if anything, he’d been born with immense magical power. In raw magical strength alone, he far surpassed Guinevere.
Even if Guinevere completed the time-reversal spell, she might still lack the power to cast it alone.
Yet William had already succeeded three times in manifesting incomplete spells through sheer willpower and raw magic alone—an extraordinary talent.
It wasn’t that William couldn’t sense magic either. He was sensitive to magical currents and changes, with highly developed instincts. The sole reason he couldn’t use magic was that he couldn’t control his own power.
“Whether it’s psychological pressure or something else, it was wrong of me to force him to keep trying something he just can’t do.”
Hedel let out an unintentionally regretful sigh.
“But he’s still only fourteen. He doesn’t understand yet.”
“No.”
Guinevere knew. In the fifty years that had vanished, William had never managed to cast proper magic until the end.
Even the time-reversal spell, completed through his death, was somewhere between magic and alchemy.
Though alchemists were named for their pursuit of gold, alchemy was originally the study of extracting magical energy from matter.
William hadn’t been able to draw out his own magic, but through using his own blood as a reagent, he had reached the pinnacle of alchemical magic.

“He’ll be fine as long as he’s good at something.”
“Huh?”
“Never mind.”
Ignoring Hedel’s grumbling, Guinevere thought to herself.
‘Right. Why didn’t I think of it this way sooner? It doesn’t matter what he’s good at—as long as he’s good at something.’
It wasn’t as if William would become a failure in life just because he couldn’t use magic. And even if he accomplished nothing at all, so what? She could protect him for his whole life.
“But still…”
Yet she’d let him die. Three times. Overwhelmed by emotion, Guinevere froze in place.
“Master?”
She felt Hedel’s puzzled gaze. In an instant, she teleported to her laboratory.

“I still don’t understand why, but Mother really….”
Treasures this child. William felt strangely conflicted. Though her words sounded half-joking, the fact that she’d brought this girl as his prospective bride seemed genuine.
“And that’s precisely the biggest problem.”
He looked at Larisa, who was munching on a snack. She was utterly adorable.
Her thick, fluffy pink hair and vivid red eyes—eyes that made you look twice—stared at him with pure, innocent curiosity.
Feeling an inexplicable pang of guilt, William spoke.
“Have you thought about what you’d like to learn?”
“Huh?”
“How about trying out a few different things first?”
“Then can I learn magic too?”
“You probably can’t.”
William said it with a regretful expression.
“Magic requires a special talent… and I can’t do magic either.”
“I don’t even know what else there is… What do you want to learn, William?”
William hesitated. It was the first time anyone had ever asked him that. After a moment’s thought, he answered.
“I… actually want to learn alchemy.”
‘Even though I’m already learning it.’
“How do you learn alchemy?”
William had been self-taught. But since this was career advice for Larisa, he answered earnestly.
“There’s an Alchemy Department at the Academy. I’ll have to enroll in the Magic Department because of my mother…”
That was actually why he’d wanted to run away. As the son of the Archwitch Rodante, still unable to move even a speck of magic, he knew exactly how much he’d be ridiculed in the Magic Department.
“Then I’ll do alchemy too!”
“Well… think it over slowly. The Academy has many other departments. Trying out different things while you’re in primary school will help.”
“I want to go where William goes.”
‘How many years would I have to wait to attend the same four-year academy as her?’
William, briefly lost in a foolish thought, spoke regretfully.
“You won’t even enroll until after I graduate, so it doesn’t have to be the same place I went.”
“But we could work together after graduation!”
For the first time in his life, William felt his nose sting. Larisa, an orphan with no one else to rely on, now had only him.
‘Since she’s so pitiful, I’ll have to protect her for life.’
Though his reasoning was rather strange, William didn’t notice at all.
“Then let’s quickly tell the Witch. She said to decide quickly.”
“The Witch?”
“Oh, since you and William both have the surname Rodante, it’d sound weird calling her ‘Lady Rodante’ in front of William.”
William paused, considering. “The Witch”? That sounded like some fearsome fairy-tale sorceress.
“Don’t call her that—just call her ‘Mother.’”
“Mother?”
“When addressing someone else’s mother respectfully, you say ‘Mother.’”
“I see! Got it!”

Unaware of this conversation, Guinevere felt her heart flutter at Larisa’s sweet, cheerful voice calling out from afar.
“Mother! I’ve decided to study alchemy!”
Mother… already?
“You’re calling me that already?”
“Huh?”
“No, it’s just… you suddenly called me ‘Mother’…”
Larisa beamed brightly.
“William told me to!”
Mother and son exchanged meaningful glances. William looked away first.
“Don’t misunderstand—I heard you’re supposed to call your friend’s mother ‘Mother’ as a sign of respect.”
“I see. I thought you were up to your usual tricks.”
“What…!”
Whether William protested or not, Guinevere forced a gentle tone.
“So… you want to study alchemy?”
“Yes!”
“Lara, I hope you don’t take this the wrong way. Whatever you choose, I’ll respect your decision. But alchemy is usually taken as a minor—how about making the Knight Department your major instead?”
“Knights?”
“Yes. At the very least, I want you to be able to protect yourself.”
‘Good stamina means a longer life.’
Besides, recalling the erased past, someone had clearly tried to harm Larisa. William’s protection alone wouldn’t be enough. This time, she intended to use every means possible to keep Larisa safe.
“That sounds wonderful! I’ll do as you say, Mother!”
‘She really is adorable.’
Guinevere smiled fondly. Her son William had never acted like a child, but Lara’s sparkling eyes and innocent charm—this must be what true childhood innocence looked like.
But contrary to Guinevere’s belief, Larisa’s thoughts were different. From the start, she’d intended to do whatever Guinevere asked.
“Good thinking. William will be entering the Knight Department too, so it’ll help you both later.”
“What?!”
William was shocked by this sudden update about his own future.
“Not the Magic Department, but the Knight Department?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because you clearly have no talent for magic.”
My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
