“Now, after all this time, what right do you have!”

It was the same old argument repeating itself again. Siod let out a sigh.

“I didn’t teach alchemy because I loved it either. But the kid wants it. You said you wouldn’t teach him magic in this life, but that doesn’t magically solve every problem.”

“What do you know? What happened after he learned alchemy? The outcome was always the same! No matter what I did, the result never changed!”

The tragedy had repeated itself three times already. If only she’d taught him nothing at all—if only William couldn’t turn back time…

‘Then would he just die?’

An uncontrollable fear began gnawing at Guinevere. Oblivious to her state, Siod pressed her, exasperated.

“It’s not the same as back then! I’m here now, and you’ve changed too. Why do you always assume the worst?”

Summoning strength from her anger, Guinevere barely managed to pull herself together.

“What do you know? In this life, William is going to become Duke Rodante and live peacefully and comfortably. Do you really think I’d allow even the tiniest blemish on him? Alchemy? People call it dark magic—claiming its practitioners rip out newborns’ hearts to drink their blood to gather magic power. I can’t let William endure all the vile things I’ve heard. Even giving him only the best isn’t enough…”

Siod spoke coldly.

“He deserves to live the life he wants, even in this life.”

Guinevere froze. Siod seized the opportunity, wanting to convince her once and for all.

“Guinevere, have you ever once asked William how he wants to live? Do you even know what his dream is? He wants to help people through alchemy. He wants to change how the world sees it himself.”

Siod wouldn’t have known this either if Larisa hadn’t shown him the contract William had signed. That was exactly why he wanted to grow closer to William—not as anything grand, just enough to share small talk and dreams about the future.
