Bentley remained utterly indifferent, even as his father, standing right before him, spat flecks of saliva while passionately arguing.

“Anyway, she’s just a girl, isn’t she? If His Grace truly had intentions, he’d naturally adopt me—the male—as his heir.”

“Ha, you fool. Do you really think it’s that simple?”

Oliver ran a frustrated hand through his hair. Strands of black hair, similar in shade to Luke’s, slipped between his fingers.

“Your uncle loved Elodie so deeply. If she were a bastard, perhaps—but since she’s legitimate, whether boy or girl, he’ll surely pass the title to her.”

“So then, what am I supposed to do?”

Bentley crossed his legs with a sullen expression.

The boy, who inherited Oliver’s black hair and dark eyes, narrowed his brows sharply in irritation.

“If Great-Uncle isn’t going to adopt me anyway, it’s already over, isn’t it? What good does it do if I just sit here looking pretty?”

“That’s something I’ll handle myself.”

Oliver stated firmly.

“So you just do exactly as I tell you. If you do, you’ll become a duke, and your younger brother will become a viscount. Understood?”

“Yes, yes.”

“Answer only once.”

“Yes.”
