“I intend to get married, Mother.”

Her eldest son had always been so blunt that she’d wondered if he’d ever find a woman.

When Luke suddenly brought up marriage, Catherine nearly fainted from shock.

She’d heard the rumors—whispers that her eldest son, Duke Lysianthus, had fallen head over heels for some count’s daughter and turned as soft as marshmallow.

But she’d never seen it with her own eyes. Just as Catherine was about to sputter something in disbelief, Luke fixed her with a fierce glare.

“Don’t even think about opposing this. Not that I believe you would, of course.”

“Oh, and when she comes, please treat her kindly. I don’t care how you treat other noble ladies, but she is off-limits.”

Her eldest son really was shamelessly brash. With eyes blazing, he practically threatened to move out immediately if Catherine ever made Elodie suffer—even implying it—and she couldn’t help but snort.

“Hmph. Why would I even cross paths with her? If she’s heard anything about me in society, she’ll surely avoid me at all costs.”

Catherine had long held a terrible reputation in high society—a fact hardly surprising, given how often she’d yanked young noblewomen by their hair back in her youth.

Truthfully, even now in her older years, she still felt perfectly willing to do it again. It was simply that people who knew her temper either avoided inviting her to parties altogether or discreetly steered clear if they happened to meet.

Catherine didn’t care one bit. She truly didn’t care what others thought of her.

Or so she thought.

“At first, I was really worried, but you’re such a kind person, Madam.”

“What will it feel like when Luke and I have a child?”
