Mom's Possessed (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 1
Mom has become strange.
“My goodness, Bonita. What on earth has happened to you?”
Bonita looked up at Aria with a blank expression.
“To be so thin like this…”
Aria kept stroking Bonita’s face, clearly distressed and at a loss.
It felt oddly disorienting—and a little frightening at the same time.
“Ouch.”
“Oh dear! I’m so sorry—did it hurt a lot?”
Bonita instinctively groaned at the touch on her arm.
Even at that tiny reaction, Aria examined her as if the sky had just collapsed.
“You’re bruised! Who on earth did this—”
‘S-scary!’
Bonita squeezed her eyes shut at Aria’s angry face.
Aria had always been temperamental—capable of kissing her sweetly one moment and suddenly snapping the next.
Yet no matter how long she waited, Aria didn’t hit or pinch her. Bonita cautiously opened her eyes, clutching her pounding heart.
“M-mother?”
Tears were streaming down Aria’s cheeks.
Startled by the tears tracing Aria’s beautiful face, Bonita reached out with her small, thin hand.
“Mother, please don’t cry. It’s Bonita’s fault, okay?”
“Waaah, Bonita! It’s Mama’s fault!”
But the moment Bonita’s hand touched her, Aria only cried harder.
Worried she might have hurt her mother somehow, Bonita squirmed to pull away—but Aria wouldn’t let go.
“I’m sorry, Mama’s so sorry, Bonita…”
Bonita blinked, tightly held in Aria’s embrace.
It had been such a long time since her mother had hugged her like this.
Since she’d called her name so tenderly, or stroked her hair with such warm hands.
‘Mother seems like a completely different person.’
Awkwardly, Bonita hugged Aria back.
At that, Aria’s sobs grew even louder.
“I’m so sorry I died too soon. I should’ve found you earlier—leaving you with that woman until you grew this big…”
Bonita couldn’t understand a word her mother was saying.
But hearing “I love you” whispered repeatedly in her ear filled her heart with joy.
She tightened her arms around Aria and murmured,
“I love you too, Mother.”
Though she had no idea what had suddenly changed, Bonita wished fervently:
If this was just another one of Mother’s whims, please—let it last a very, very long time.
[This is the timeline separator]Bonita was an exceptionally clever child for her age of seven.
“They say she came all the way to this backwater village with just one child.”
“The woman must’ve been a nobleman’s mistress—her clothes are far too fine for a country bumpkin.”
“Guess she got cast out of her family for bearing a bastard. Tsk tsk—nobles are always like that. Pretending to be refined while being the filthiest of all.”
But Bonita wasn’t old enough to understand everything the adults muttered about her and her mother. So once, she’d clutched her mother’s skirt and asked,
“Mother, what’s a mistress?”
At those words, Aria’s pretty face twisted like a demon’s, her eyes flashing fiercely.
“Where did you hear that word?”
“Auntie Becky at the bakery said…”
“Ha! A mistress? Nonsense! If that had really happened, I wouldn’t even have minded—it’d be less unfair.”
After hearing Bonita, Aria muttered incomprehensibly to herself: “Yeah, if only it hadn’t been that damn man, I’d still be there…”
But amidst her rambling, one thing Bonita clearly understood was:
“Damn it. I didn’t pick you up just to hear that kind of talk.”

After muttering like a broken person for a while, she swung her hand at Bonita. The dull pain made her realize:
Aria wasn’t Bonita’s birth mother.
She might have said it in anger, but Aria seemed sincere—and honestly, she had no reason to lie.
Of course, even knowing this changed nothing for Bonita. She wasn’t shocked—it wasn’t news to her.
Birth mother or not, Aria was still her mother.
She didn’t know why Aria kept her despite clearly not liking her much… but Bonita loved her mother. She loved Aria more than any birth mother.
‘Because my real mother must’ve abandoned me.’
Outside their home, there were plenty of truly parentless children.
They were captured by alleyway beggar gangs, forced into ridiculous begging acts, and had every coin stolen from them. Many froze to death in winter for lack of shelter.
Beaten constantly on top of that, Bonita—having a mother—was far better off.
Her mother worked, after all.
True, she often squandered earnings on drink and gambling. Still, she always found a way to feed Bonita. Though she sometimes hit her when drunk, it never reached the extremes of other households—no broken bones or ruined hearing.
Clearly, she had some sense of responsibility.
Enough responsibility to keep Bonita alive, unmaimed, and sane.
In other words—that was precisely the limit.
But now, her mother was…
“Bonita, would it be alright if Mama bathed you?”
“…Huh?”
Bonita, about to brush her teeth alone as usual, looked bewildered at the toothbrush in Aria’s hand.
Now her mother even held a shower brush—and somehow had warm water ready, too.
“Bathing my daughter myself has been Mama’s lifelong dream… Can’t I?”
Seeing Bonita hesitate, Aria’s face fell.
At that sorrowful, almost dying expression, Bonita stammered,
“I-I mean…”
“Really not okay? Huh?”
In the end, Bonita surrendered.
“O-okay. Please bathe me.”
“That’s my girl!”
Clap! Aria clapped excitedly.
Soon, she undressed Bonita and placed her in a small tub.
As Bonita blinked her round eyes, warm water poured over her head.
“Achoo.”
Water went up her nose, and Bonita sneezed softly. Aria jumped in alarm and grabbed her face.
“Does it hurt? Are you okay?”
“My nose stings…”
“Then blow your nose. Hmph—go on.”
“Y-yes?”
“Hmph!”
Repeated “hmph” demands turned Bonita’s face crimson as she blew her nose.
Aria’s hand got sticky with mucus. Instantly, Bonita panicked.
‘She’ll get mad—it’s dirty!’
Aria hated filth. Bonita looked up at her, face pale as snow.
“My goodness—how can even blowing your nose be this adorable? You really are my daughter.”
Instead of anger, Aria smothered Bonita’s cheeks with kisses—fervent, almost suctioning kisses.
Bonita was utterly confused.
“Now sit still, sweetheart.”
Regardless, Aria hummed a tune and seated Bonita on a small stool.
Her hands sank into Bonita’s greasy hair. Though it must’ve been filthy from days without proper washing, Aria showed no sign of disgust.
‘Will she start pulling my hair now?’
Or… would she suddenly fetch scissors?

‘I don’t want my head cut off…’
Bonita’s big eyes rolled around, but Aria remained silent.
At first tense, Bonita gradually relaxed under Aria’s touch.
Though her mother washed her hair clumsily compared to before, deep affection radiated from every motion.
While stroking Bonita’s pink hair, Aria asked,
“Bonita, what year is it now?”
“617, Mother.”
“617…”
Aria murmured as if savoring the words, then gave a faint smile.
“So my Bonita is seven years old.”
Two months had already passed since the new year—yet her reaction seemed oddly surprised.
“For seven whole years, I’ve left you…”
Bonita rubbed her eyes and looked at Aria in the mirror.
Seeing that face clouded with regret and longing, Bonita’s heart felt strangely twisted.
“Mother.”
“Just close your eyes for a moment. Soap water stings if it gets in.”
But soon water rushed in to rinse her hair, and Bonita could no longer see her mother’s expression.
[This is the timeline separator]“Bonita, shall we sleep together?”
“…Is that okay?”
“Of course it is.”
Bonita wriggled into Aria’s arms.
Yesterday, this would’ve been unthinkable—but after today’s kindness, she found the courage.
“It’s warm.”
Bonita’s lips softened. Though their house was drafty and cold, nestled tightly against her mother, she felt no chill at all.
Aria carefully tucked the blanket around her.
“Sleep well, my darling.”
“You too, Mother.”
At Bonita’s mumbled reply, Aria smiled softly and quietly sang a lullaby.
With the steady rhythm of her patting hand and the long-missed sound of her mother’s heartbeat, Bonita quickly drifted off.
“Bonita, are you asleep?”
Aria whispered softly. But instead of answering “no,” Bonita only breathed evenly in colorful little sighs.
The clear sign a child was fully asleep. Only then did Aria release the breath she’d been holding.
Seven whole years.
One year believing Bonita was stillborn—and six more after her own death.
In her memory, Bonita was still just the tiny baby in her womb, yet she’d already grown so big.
Still, she’d recognized her instantly—the child was her spitting image, like a miniature reflection in a mirror.
Blood truly couldn’t be denied.
She recalled her husband, Duke Lysianthus’s voice just before she died:
“Elodie, I won’t let you die like this. I’ll save you—no matter what it takes.”
Back then, she’d dismissed it as absurd stubbornness, childish pleading.
Yet warmed by his love and guilty at leaving him alone, she’d smiled faintly.
But when she truly opened her eyes, she’d been reborn.
Inside the body of the very friend who’d betrayed her.
As the adoptive mother of her own daughter.
Absurd as it was, Elodie—now Aria—decided to embrace this chance gladly.
Her gaze fell upon Bonita.
“Bonita, my beloved baby.”
This child, less than half her size, felt more precious and dear than anything in the world.
Aria gave a bitter smile and gently stroked the sleeping Bonita’s hair.

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
