“Ah, right. If it’s the Lady Lysianthus, she might know.”
Despite her notorious reputation for being strict and ill-tempered, she was also incredibly rational and realistic.
Being someone who could handle her son with ease, she would surely reprimand any absurdity with common sense.
Dominic turned his gaze with such expectation.
As he thought, Lady Lysianthus was showing her displeasure plainly.
“What nonsense is this? Making a fuss about drawing blood, really now.”
“Right? Exactly! As expected of the Lady!”
Dominic quickly rubbed his palms together.
“We’ll take the blood as carefully as possible to leave minimal traces. We’ll disinfect it right away.”
Luke still looked unhappy about it but didn’t object further.
He understood that there was no other solution here, even if he found it displeasing.
“Well, let’s begin. Miss, could you please extend your arm…”
While Dominic was distracting Bonita, Leo was secretly preparing the syringe.
He wiped the needle with alcohol-soaked cotton, feeling extremely nervous inside.
‘She’s definitely going to cry.’
Crying was a natural reaction for kids who hate injections, but the problem was when the tears started.
If this tiny, cute little girl really was the Duke’s daughter, and he made her cry…
‘Well, never mind. He wouldn’t kill a priest in front of the child, right?’
Leo glanced at Dominic. Dominic was also looking at him.
They nodded to each other in unspoken agreement.
“Here we go—”
“Ouch!”
However, contrary to their expectations, it wasn’t Bonita who screamed.
“How can such a thick needle go into this thin, shriveled arm like a stick! Use a thinner one!”
“Lady?”
“Didn’t you hear?! Use this only for poking yourself and bring something less painful!”
“Ah, but this is a needle for children…”
“Children? Do you think she looks like a child?”
Catherine barked.
“She’s practically a newborn!”
“What?”
“What?”
This time, Dominic wasn’t the only one to question. Bonita, treated as a newborn, blushed and protested.
“Lady, I’m not a baby.”
“What nonsense is that? Luke was already this big when he was a month old.”
“What?”
Whip.
Everyone’s gaze in the room instantly turned to Luke.
Almost 2 meters tall, with shoulders and a build that made the chair look small.
Indeed, Luke Lysianthus appeared more bear-like than human. Ariadne murmured,
“That does make sense.”
“Ridiculous.”
Luke gave her a look of disbelief.
“Even if I was big, I didn’t grow that much in just a month. I can’t believe you’re taking such words seriously.”
“Ha, of course, right?”
“Obviously.”
Luke laughed hollowly.
“It took a year to grow that big.”
“What?”
“What?”
“What?”
“What?”
This time, both priests, Ariadne, and Bonita exclaimed in unison. Luke seemed unconcerned and gestured towards Leo with the needle.
“Anyway, that needle is indeed too thick. Bonita is too small, we need a smaller one.”
“This is already thin enough…”
Intimidated by his menacing look, Leo hesitated.
But he felt utterly wronged.
‘This is a needle used for three-year-olds!’
Thinking that the Duke’s daughter was much smaller than her age, he had purposely prepared a needle meant for even younger children.
Additionally, a needle thinner than this one did not exist.
“Um… should we use a lancet instead then?”
“A lancet?”
“Yes, a lancet.”
Dominic rummaged through his bag and pulled out a small lancet. It looked much thinner than a syringe needle since it wasn’t hollow.
Luke squinted at the lancet and made a decision.
“That might be better. Use that.”
Eventually, they decided to use the lancet to draw blood, but due to Catherine’s fussing every time the lancet came near Bonita, it took an hour just to collect her blood.
Exhausted, Bonita crawled into Ariadne’s arms. The elderly lady lashed out again.
“This is all your fault! What did you do to the lancet?”
Luke felt the same.
“If you’ve done anything suspicious, I won’t let it slide.”
Both priests, Dominic and Leo, were speechless, thinking to themselves, ‘It’s all your fault!’
Of course, they only said this in their minds, out of fear.
While Bonita’s blood drawing drained her, Luke’s blood collection was completed quickly, though not without some delay.
“Yikes!”
“The needle won’t go in?”
The syringe needle couldn’t penetrate Luke’s thick forearm.
Dominic swallowed hard, his eyes shaking.
‘No matter how thick, it’s still a human arm… how can a steel needle not penetrate?’
Watching the flustered priests, Luke nonchalantly drew a knife across his own arm, causing blood to gush out. Ariadne’s shock was inevitable.
“What are you doing in front of the child!”
“Ah…”
Realizing too late that Bonita was watching, Luke’s face paled.
He turned sharply. His intense, fierce eyes glared at the priests.
“Do something about it now. That’s an order.”
“Yes…!”
And so it went.
After the wound was treated, Luke approached Bonita with a softened expression.
“Sorry for scaring you. Were you very frightened?”
“Um…”
Bonita hesitated to respond.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
