Miss Pendleton (Update to C.222 END) - Chapter 97
He gazed at Laura silently.
“I’ve tried to live differently from them. Always facing reality, prioritizing reason and discernment in my thoughts. I never allowed myself to follow my emotions. That effort was so consistent it became a part of me, like Mr. Dalton’s smoking habit. Now, as I intended, I’ve become a completely different person from my mother and father. When strong emotions arise, I stiffen. I immediately analyze and judge, responding accordingly.”
“That sounds like a fine trait.”
He spoke in a soft voice, one he rarely used even with those closest to him.
“I admire Miss Pendleton’s rationality. Anyone with proper judgment would feel the same as I do. Always calm, gentle, and just. You are gentle because you are wise, and kind because you are strong. Your parents in heaven must be proud of such qualities.”
“Do you really think so?”
“Of course.”
Laura smiled. Mr. Dalton looked up at her smiling face with a warm gaze.
Under his gaze, Laura felt a languid warmth, as if she had sipped wine, sweeping through her body. Deep within her heart, the affection she had always kept hidden for him stirred, clamoring to break free.
With her eyes, her expressions, her words, and her gestures, she longed to convey her feelings to him. She wanted to be the cigarette case he held, caressed by his touch, or the shirt he wore, clinging to his body, or the fire in the hearth he warmed himself by, enveloping him in heat.
Crack, crack—her heart’s defenses kept breaking apart. At the same time, a gentle flush of a lady in love spread across her face.
Mr. Dalton’s gaze upon Laura grew peculiar.
Laura flinched. Had her true feelings unwittingly shown on her face? Had she exposed an improper affection that would make her a laughingstock and embarrass Mr. Dalton?
Terrified, Laura summoned the reason that had always been her weapon in crises. She quickly found the most appropriate words to defuse the situation.
“I hope a lady who sees Mr. Dalton’s true nature and loves him wholeheartedly will soon fill that empty place. How far along is she, Mr. Dalton?”

After Being Cheated On, She Picked Up a Treasure (Female-dominant)
One-line summary: The husband I married on a whim had been secretly in love with me for a long time.
On the day when Jun Shao finally obtained the imperial decree for her marriage, Lan Qu, the person she had admired for six years, defied the decree and ran away.
Her gentleness and devotion, her promise of a lifetime together, were all disregarded by him. Instead, he dreamed of entering the palace to serve the Emperor’s sister as a sixth-rank attendant.
News of this incident spread throughout the capital, and the alleys in front of and behind the Lan mansion were crowded with people who came to watch the commotion.
Jun Shao should have been embarrassed and angry.
But someone stepped in to protect her dignity.
The figure was in a miserable state, yet still possessed an undeniable elegance and handsomeness.
The young lord struggled to climb the wall of the Lan mansion and shouted to her, “If he won’t marry you, I will!”
So, Jun Shao took advantage of the situation and married the person.
She thought the young lord did it to save the Lan family from the crime of defying the imperial decree, but never imagined that from beginning to end, what he coveted was her.
*
After the wedding, Jun Shao felt like she was living in a dream.
Her Wife-master was as beautiful as a fairy in a painting, skilled in the six arts, well-versed in poetry and literature, capable of being gentle and attentive, and also grand and dignified. Most importantly, she was the only one in his heart and eyes.
Jun Shao didn’t know how Lan Shiwu, as a illegitimate son without a father and blessed with beauty, had managed to preserve his purity, recklessly escape, and use his last ounce of strength to ruin his own reputation, all because of his love for her, just to stand before her.
She could only see him gazing at her with eyes full of love, and when she bestowed a name upon him, his eyes shone like stars.
“You have come to me like a weary bird perching on a branch. I shall call you A Qi.”

It’s progressing a bit slowly, but nicely… I hope there won’t be unnecessary distances between them due to misunderstandings.
