Miss Pendleton (Update to C.222 END) - Chapter 196
Yet, at the very moment she needed help, she remained silent before him.
His heart sank into self-reproach. Had he been such an untrustworthy husband to her? Were all his efforts to make her happy utterly worthless to Laura?
Did she even see him as her husband?
With a heavy heart, he left for Leeds.
Upon arriving in Leeds, he threw himself into his planned schedule to forget his troubled mind. He inspected the five or six textile processing and parts factories he owned and held a lengthy meeting with the president of Leeds Industrial University.
Ian proposed a major curriculum reform, and though the president seemed taken aback by the sudden suggestion, he responded positively. This was partly because Ian provided significant funding for the university, and his argument that the university’s growth would lead to the city’s development was quite compelling.
Together with the president, Ian toured the university facilities, met with professors, and envisioned the future of Leeds University. Given the region’s characteristics, mechanical engineering should be the focus, but he planned to develop it into a comprehensive university that would excel in the humanities as well.
To achieve this, they would need to recruit outstanding professors. He mentally reviewed the professors and scholars he had met at various seminars during his Cambridge days.
Then, out of the blue, the president, who had been guiding Ian around the campus, asked, “That pocket watch—it seems like a cherished item.”
“Pardon?” Ian replied.
The president nodded toward the pocket watch hanging from Ian’s vest.
“You’ve been fidgeting with it the whole time.”
Only then did Ian realize his hand was clutching the pocket watch.
He quickly withdrew his hand.
“It’s a gift from my wife.”

A gentle female protagonist vs pitiful in the early stage, and a sick male protagonist in the later stage
Cheng Songer transmigrated into the body of a vicious cannon fodder female supporting character with the same name as her in a female-dominant novel.
In the original story, the cannon fodder female supporting character was inhumane, committing domestic violence, gambling excessively, being lustful, and even wanting to sell her stepbrother to a brothel for money.
As luck would have it, she just happened to transmigrate at this time.
Seeing Cheng Qingzhi biting his lip, enduring the tears in his eyes, looking pitiful, her heart softened.
She stuffed the money back into the Madam’s hand and reached out to him.
“Brother, come home with me.”
