Miss Pendleton (Update to C.222 END) - Chapter 122
Laura’s breathing faltered. He, Mr. Dalton, was in Bath? The one pursuing her was him? And he even did this to John Ashton?
Her feet carried her toward John instinctively.
“After safely escorting you back from Mrs. Chelsey’s, I lingered there for about two hours before heading out to the streets. I was passing through the shopping district and walking under a quiet bridge when someone grabbed my shoulder. It was a gentleman with black hair and a pale face.”
Laura collapsed back into the chair she had just risen from.
“He introduced himself as Ian Dalton, a great landowner from Yorkshire, and told me to give up my feelings for Laura Pendleton. He said you two were to be married soon, so I should stop interfering and get lost. I instinctively knew he was the man following you. So, I gave him a few words of caution. He must have taken offense because he suddenly swung his fist at me.”
Laura covered her face with both hands and bowed her head deeply.
“…My God. My God… How could this be…?”
Laura’s mind reeled with shock. Ian Dalton had struck John Ashton. He broke two of his ribs and marred his face entirely.
Laura neither wanted to believe it nor found it easy to. He was indeed an emotional man, quick to take offense at unpleasantness. But he wasn’t the sort of ruffian who would recklessly throw punches. At least, the Mr. Dalton Laura knew wasn’t that kind of man.
Yet, it was hard to believe John Ashton was lying either. His knowledge of Mr. Dalton’s existence lent credibility to his account.
Laura lowered her hands and looked at John Ashton. Facing his bruised and torn face, guilt overwhelmed her resentment.
“I’m sorry. I’m truly sorry, John.”
He shook his head.
“I didn’t tell you this to get an apology. There’s danger lurking around you. You need to be cautious, extremely cautious. Otherwise, next time, you might end up like me…”
Laura shook her head.

After Being Cheated On, She Picked Up a Treasure (Female-dominant)
One-line summary: The husband I married on a whim had been secretly in love with me for a long time.
On the day when Jun Shao finally obtained the imperial decree for her marriage, Lan Qu, the person she had admired for six years, defied the decree and ran away.
Her gentleness and devotion, her promise of a lifetime together, were all disregarded by him. Instead, he dreamed of entering the palace to serve the Emperor’s sister as a sixth-rank attendant.
News of this incident spread throughout the capital, and the alleys in front of and behind the Lan mansion were crowded with people who came to watch the commotion.
Jun Shao should have been embarrassed and angry.
But someone stepped in to protect her dignity.
The figure was in a miserable state, yet still possessed an undeniable elegance and handsomeness.
The young lord struggled to climb the wall of the Lan mansion and shouted to her, “If he won’t marry you, I will!”
So, Jun Shao took advantage of the situation and married the person.
She thought the young lord did it to save the Lan family from the crime of defying the imperial decree, but never imagined that from beginning to end, what he coveted was her.
*
After the wedding, Jun Shao felt like she was living in a dream.
Her Wife-master was as beautiful as a fairy in a painting, skilled in the six arts, well-versed in poetry and literature, capable of being gentle and attentive, and also grand and dignified. Most importantly, she was the only one in his heart and eyes.
Jun Shao didn’t know how Lan Shiwu, as a illegitimate son without a father and blessed with beauty, had managed to preserve his purity, recklessly escape, and use his last ounce of strength to ruin his own reputation, all because of his love for her, just to stand before her.
She could only see him gazing at her with eyes full of love, and when she bestowed a name upon him, his eyes shone like stars.
“You have come to me like a weary bird perching on a branch. I shall call you A Qi.”

Each chapter leaves me in suspense for the future. Although the readers are given assurance from Laura’s feelings since the carriage kiss, I can’t help but doubt the next steps for this couple! Ian’s feeling are deep and tumultuous like waves against a cliff. I can only hope that when the two finally meet, he will remain level headed.
