Why would the Fox Mask have a portrait of the Duke of Atraxil’s eldest son?
Tila wandered around the master’s vacant room with the portrait in one hand.
She had to leave with the portrait before Fox Mask returned. Curiosity, however, held her steps.
‘Fox Mask. Ranamun. Fox Mask. Ranamun. Fox Mask. Ranamun…’
As she roamed around the room, she heard noises from the hallway.
“Mr. Fox, the Lord has been looking for you,”
It was one of the castle’s servants talking to the Fox Mask. The Fox Mask was back.
Hastily, Tila went to the place where the Fox Mask kept his spare masks and placed the portrait among them, trying to leave everything as close to the original state as possible. The corner of the painting peeked out just a bit.
“I have been looking for the Lord myself, but he was not there.”
The response from the Fox Mask came from a closer place. He was moving while having a conversation with the servant. Tila quickly withdrew her hand and stood up.
‘Damn!’
But maybe she was too hasty. As Tila rose, the mask tilted forward too much. The portrait that had been only slightly visible was now half exposed.
“Well, since the Lord is looking for me and I am looking for the Lord, we will meet soon enough.”
The Fox Mask’s cheeky laugh sounded even closer now.
‘Blast!’
Tila rushed back to the stack of masks, propped up the mask, and returned to the door. Putting her ear to the door, the conversation was more clearly audible.
“He did not seem to be in a good mood, what happened?”
Tila opened the door just a bit. The voices weren’t coming from nearby. If she played her cards right, she might be able to escape while the Fox Mask was chatting with the servant.
Why should I, the Lord, worry about the reactions of my subordinates? It was a blow to her pride, but escaping the scene was the priority.
No one would be pleased to find their room had been searched. She had questions for the Fox Mask, but those would be asked later in a proper setting.
Just the possibility of not being the Lord made Tila crumble.
“Waking up is not easy, is he in pain?”
As she heard the Fox Mask’s cheeky reply, Tila peeked through the crack of the door to confirm his location.
At that moment, what Tila saw was the foxshaped mask.
“!”
She quickly stepped back. The door creaked open.
The Fox Mask was already standing right in front of the door, slightly bending over. As the door opened, he straightened up, tilted his head and asked,
“Oh? Why are you here?”
[This is the time separator]‘Why is this person here?’
Could anything be more absurd? Latil glared at the unmasked face and reflexively furrowed her brows.
That neat and intelligent face. She didn’t remember the name but certainly recognized who it was. How could she not? She often saw him in the palace library.
“The Palace Librarian.”
The librarian’s face turned ashen as he fell to the floor and cried out,
“Your Majesty, there’s a misunderstanding. I don’t know why I was brought here…”
Latil approached the librarian and lifted his chin with her hand. When he raised his head, there were distinct scratches on one side of his cheek. The wounds were rough rather than clean, shallow yet untidy.
“Doesn’t seem like a misunderstanding.”
“This is an injury from falling while chopping wood, Your Majesty. But then, the soldiers suddenly came and dragged me here. I don’t understand what’s going on”
“Where were you chopping this wood? In your backyard?”
“Pardon?”
“Where were you chopping it that you got dragged here while doing so? Do you live nearby?”
The librarian’s face was filled with horror. Throughout, the librarian who had been denying everything couldn’t look in one direction.
Latil turned to the chief of security.
“Where did you find him and bring him from?”
“He was in the garden near the banquet hall, Your Majesty.”
Latil looked back at the librarian. The librarian had lost all color in his face. Anyone could see that he was panicking. But the librarian kept denying until the end.
“No, this wound was inflicted this morning. It may be confused because the wound is fresh, but definitely not. I was not chopping wood but simply passing by.”
The words of the scribe were hardly over when another guard brought someone by the throat and threw him next to the scribe.
It was a person dressed as a servant. As soon as he came, he looked at the scribe as if he knew him, and immediately revealed his true feelings as if he was fainthearted before Latil could do anything.
[What should I do? I didn’t say the situation would get this big.]“Who is this person?”
“He was watching the net. He seems like a spy.”
Despite the arrival of a colleague, the scribe denied vehemently.
“I do not know him, Your Majesty!”
The servant also seemed to think that nothing good would come from being involved with the scribe and agreed.
“I, I also do not know him. I was just hanging around because the scenery was good.”
An Indifferent Woman is the One Men Desire the Most
One-line summary: The female lead is actually cold-hearted and extremely rational. She has stage-by-stage relationships and won’t two-time, but there will always be someone who secretly likes her.
This novel has the following triggers, so if you’re sensitive to these, please don’t read:
1. The female lead has had many relationships, but she treated each one seriously and broke up properly.
It’s just that the men unilaterally pestered her incessantly. For the female lead, when she doesn’t like someone anymore, she simply doesn’t like them.
(This applies to her relationships with Male Lead 1, 2, 3, and 4 as well, but she’s loyal in each 1-on-1 relationship!)
2. In this novel, Male Lead 2 and the female lead kiss in a car, and Male Lead 1 sees it and beats up Male Lead 2.
The female lead calls the police and sends both Male Lead 1 and 2 to the police station! Male Lead 1 begs the female lead not to break up with him.
3. Male Lead 1 has a gentle appearance but an obsessive personality.
Male Lead 2 has a delicate and soft appearance, slightly green tea-like (two-faced).
Male Lead 3 is a youthful college student and a smart person who has secretly liked the female lead for a long time.
Male Lead 4 is the female lead’s father’s special assistant, a business elite with deep, hidden thoughts.
4. At the beginning of this novel, the female lead has already broken up with Male Lead 1 (Chapter 4) and gotten back together with Male Lead 2 (ex-boyfriend).
5. Enter with caution if you have triggers!!!
