Latil coldly smiled, staring into the void, then shook her head and straightened her waist. Now was not the time. Anger could wait. First, she had to finish her work.
However, as she held the other documents she had set aside, one of her secretaries cautiously opened the door and entered.
Latil lifted her head to look at the approaching secretary.
The emperor had two offices, an ‘official’ public office and a private one. The place where Latil was right now was the public office.
And in this public office, the emperor’s secretaries and attendants could freely come and go as long as it was about workrelated matters. Of course, since ‘freely’ made everyone feel burdened, unless it was a necessary matter, they wouldn’t come in.
“What is it?”
At Latil’s question, the secretary hurriedly approached and reported.
“The envoy who went to Karisen has arrived. Count Bretta is in the waiting room, should I tell him to come in?”
‘Finally!’
“Tell him to come in.”

Latil suppressed her excitement and leaned back in her chair pretending to be relaxed. A strange tension rose in her, both pleasant and eerie. But what Count Bretta brought wasn’t approval filled with Hyacinth’s anger but a firm refusal.
“Your Majesty. The Emperor of Karisen refused to send a harem and immediately sent back the envoy without even letting them stay for a day.”
At Count Bretta’s report filled with flattery, Latil raised one of her eyebrows.
“What?”
Refuse to send a harem? Moreover, sending back the envoy without even letting them stay for a day?
As Latil’s face darkened, Count Bretta quickly took out the reply that Emperor Hyacinth had written on the spot from his bosom and presented it. Latil roughly tore the seal and took out the paper with a stiff face.
How could you make such a request to me, Latil?
The letter did not contain as much malice as Latil had sent. However, the short sentence was filled with resentment. Latil gave a hollow laugh. What is this guy saying?
Even though she requested for a harem out of revenge, it definitely wasn’t an unreasonable request. No, on the contrary, even if Latil wasn’t a past lover with Hyacinth, considering various circumstances, there was a high possibility that she would have made the same request to Karisen.
Even if the enthroned person was Prince Rean or Prince Tula, there was a high probability that they would have accepted at least one harem from Karisen for diplomacy.

But refusing this request as if it was so difficult? Moreover, he received a harem from the Tarium Empire just two years ago?
“That son of a bitch.”
This was clearly an act of ignoring Tarium and deceiving them.
“Count Sable!”
As Latil grinded her teeth, Count Sable quickly brought a clean sheet of paper. Latil gripped the pen as if drawing a sword.
[This is the time separator] [If you reject the envoy I sent again, know that it is disrespecting the Tarium Empire and I will respond ‘normally’. Don’t act as if there’s something left between us when you haven’t sent a single letter in three years.]“……”
Hyacinth looked down at the letter sent by Latil, sighed, and looked to the side. On the table was the reply that Hyacinth was going to send to Latil.
[I’ve written letters and sent gifts every week, what are you talking about?]ads
He put down his pen and leaned his head back. As he rubbed the irritated back of his neck and closed his eyes, the faint image of Latil smiling came to mind. Not a sarcastic smile but a genuine smile of happiness.
The person who shone even while sitting amongst wildflowers. As refreshing as the sunlight that fell on the wildflowers. It was hard to believe that this clear person sent such a mocking letter…… Hyacinth shook his head.
The past was being too beautified. Latil had always been rough. She was the sunlight, but the scorching sun. It was just cute that she tried not to show her rough personality to him.
Hyacinth pressed his temples and furrowed his brows. The fact that he wrote letters and sent gifts regularly was not an excuse but the truth. But even if Latil was angry, she was not the type to lie about such things.
‘But why is she condemning that she didn’t receive a single letter? Did someone intercept my letters and gifts?’
Hyacinth furrowed his brows. There was no guarantee that Latrasil, whose heart was hurt by his marriage, would have her mood improved just because she received letters and gifts.
No, rather, his apologies probably resonated emptily for many years. It wouldn’t be strange if, given her character, she didn’t even tear open the letters and gifts and simply tossed them into the trash bin.
But separately, the fact that someone had tampered with an item that the emperor had sent to the empress. Whether it happened on the Tarium Empire’s side or the Karisen’s side, it was not a matter to be easily overlooked.
Hyacinth stared at the letter, then put it back in the envelope and sealed it with a red seal. Even without detailing everything, at this point, Latrasil should realize the problem.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
