As she approached to ask, Klein, who had been looking somewhere, turned around in surprise.
“Your Majesty.”
Latil looked in the same direction Klein had been gazing. There was nothing there. Just a path.
“Why are you looking there?”
When Latil turned to ask, Klein seemed uncomfortable. Seeing his expression, Latil exclaimed, “Ah.”
“Were you waiting to see whether I was coming or not?”
Surprisingly, Klein’s true intentions were visible without reading his mind.
“No!”
Klein immediately denied it, but Latil knew her words were correct.
The evidence was her servant, standing behind Klein, quickly nodding in agreement with her words.
“Do you have something to say to me?”
When Latil asked, the servant behind Klein nodded again. It seemed that the servant was hoping Klein would honestly express his interest in Latil.
However, Klein, unaware of his servant’s betrayal behind his back, promptly answered, “No.”
“Is that so? I see. Then… continue what you were doing. I don’t know what it is, though.”
However, as Latil was about to pass by him, Klein quickly reached out and grabbed the hem of her cloak.
When Latil stopped and turned around, she saw Klein, his hand stretched out, looking the other way.
Latil stretched out her hand and gently pulled her cloak out of his grip.
“Do you want to talk to my cloak? Do you want to borrow it?”
When Latil asked, Klein finally looked at her directly. But his expression was still confused.
His face revealed his struggle to figure out what to say. But soon she was able to guess what he was thinking.
[What do I say? I was the only one not present when Her Majesty was dealing with the impostor. How do I explain that?]This time it wasn’t the servant but Klein’s thoughts that revealed the truth.
Latil almost laughed and bit the inside of her cheek to keep herself from laughing. As a result, her cheeks hollowed out, but Klein didn’t notice, engrossed in his own dilemma.
[I was the only one among the consorts who didn’t know about the impostor. She must be disappointed. I need to pretend I knew… But how?]Latil covered her mouth with her fist and cleared her throat.
She had never expected Klein, who was slightly dull, to differentiate between the real and the impostor.
But since he was so serious about it, she was curious about how he would try to deceive her.
‘But why can I hear Klein’s inner voice so clearly? Is it because he’s simple? Or is it because his emotions are intense? ……I did hear Kallain’s inner voice this morning, too.’
The smile that had appeared on her face faded as she remembered Kallain kissing her and calling her ‘Domis’. Latil shook her head briefly and quickly to shake off the thought.
She knew from the beginning that he had come here because the woman he loved had died. Don’t mind it. She’s dead. Don’t mind it.
To shake off Kallain’s voice, Latil focused even more on Klein.
[“I couldn’t attend the court meeting because I was a foreigner, right? No, they would’ve let me in since our older brother is coming. The emperor would know this too.”]Luckily, Klein lost in thought was quite beautiful, making it an easy task.
While Klein’s attendant was signalling ‘Your Highness, your Highness, please say something!’, Latil quickly shook off Carlein and looked interestingly at Klein’s lowered gaze.
[“What if I say that I knew the truth but the other consorts wouldn’t include me? …No, you might think I’m slandering the other consorts.”]The excuse that Klein chose after a long time was laughable.
“I also knew that the fake was a fake, your Majesty.”
‘So you just omitted the explanation because there’s no way to explain.’
He really isn’t that smart.
Klein looked at Latil with a nervous expression. It looked like he was afraid Latil would prod further.
Latil momentarily felt the urge to tease him, but in the end, she decided to go along with his lie and smiled broadly.
“I thought so. I believed in you, Klein.”
She wondered what would happen if he was pricked by these words, but Klein, without any sign of being pricked, lacking both brain and conscience, laughed along and answered.
“Do you know, your Majesty? That Carlein ran away outside the palace with a maid?”
“……”
“It was blatantly obvious that the maid was trying to seduce Carlein, and he fell for it. When I first saw that maid, her eyes were off, so I didn’t like her.”
Klein, who had become full of himself, was laughing ‘ha ha’ and the moment he asked, “To leave your Majesty and fall for such a strange maid. Carlein has no taste?” Latil, who had become a strange maid with a bad look in her eyes, unknowingly stepped on his foot.
“Ouch. Your Majesty?”
When Klein looked at Latil in bewilderment, Latil grabbed his head with both hands and shook it as if shaking a ball.
“Your Majesty? Your Majesty?”
Klein was shaken without understanding why. After doing this a few times, Latil let go of Klein’s head and muttered.
“I thought it would be empty. But there’s something in there.”
“Huh?”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
