“Well…… That’s the problem.”
Latil crossed her arms and looked at the palace, built in a style different from Tarium, from a distance.
“I have to meet and ask for help.”
She thought about disguising herself as a maid again to get in, but unlike Tarium, she didn’t have a perfect disguise identity to pass the document review here, which was a problem.
A merchant had just come into the palace to deliver something, so she wondered if she could sneak in among them, but it didn’t work.
They firmly refused because if they brought a stranger in and a problem arose, they would have to bear the responsibility.
Nor could she borrow the identity of the mercenary king. The story of the mercenary king becoming a consort of the Tarium emperor was already too famous.
After staying for two days, trying to find a way into the palace, Latil finally came up with a good idea.
“I need your help, Carlein!”
After hearing Latil’s idea, Carlein, already pale, went even paler.
“Really…… Are you really going to do this?”
“Yeah. I can’t think of another way.”
[This is the time separator]“Your Majesty, the merchants have brought in laborers and are setting up decorations.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes. Would you like to go see it for a moment?”
In the Karisen palace, they replaced the entire hall’s decorations every season. They stored useful previous decorations in the warehouse to reuse next time, and discarded ones that could no longer be used.
It seemed to be that time again, as the hall was bustling.
“Yes, let’s go see.”
Hyacinth, who had a keen interest in art, took time out of his busy schedule to check out the new decorations and walked over there.
They were currently erecting stands around the hall’s columns and placing sculptures on top. A few wagons were nearby, and laborers were carefully unloading the sculptures.
Each sculpture was covered with cloth, so you couldn’t see what was inside, but since they were all presumably expensive, the laborers handled them very carefully.
As Hyacinth entered the hall, people inside started whispering and giggling at him. Among them was a pair of unusually sharp eyes, but with so many people around, Hyacinth didn’t notice them.
“Oh, my! Your Majesty! You’re here!”
Then, the merchant who had brought the sculptures saw Hyacinth and quickly came over, bowing and laughing heartily.
As Hyacinth leaned back and nodded, the merchant laughed goodnaturedly and pointed to the nearest sculpture, still unseen under its cloth.
“Thank you for purchasing from us. Absolutely! You won’t regret it. Although our company may not be the best in Karisen, I can boldly say that we have a higher taste in the field of art than any other company in the world.”
“Is that so.”
“Yes. We always strive to discover and sponsor exceptional artists, and prepare highquality pieces of art. The sculptures you ordered this time are among the best.”
As the merchant finished his words, he gestured to his assistant, who wore a hat pulled low over his eyes, to hurry and remove the cloth covering the sculpture.
However, the assistant hesitated, glancing at Hyacinth for approval. The merchant frowned. Finally, when the assistant slowly began to remove the cloth, a small white sculpture with tiny wings was revealed.
With a satisfied smile, the merchant began to describe the piece unbidden.
“Do you see those delicate toes? Can you see the form that represents the movement of the fingers and nails? Is it not incredible? And what about the depiction of this garment?”
“Indeed.”
Hyacinth nodded and asked.
“What’s the title?”
“It’s ‘The Angel Contemplating Whether to Shoot the Arrow’.”
As the workers set the sculpture on the stand, the merchant quickly revealed another sculpture and began his explanation.
“This is a sculpture called ‘Anthropomorphization of a Dog Angry Because Its Owner Doesn’t Give It Coffee’.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes. Isn’t the expression well captured? Look at those eyes.”
“I see.”
As the merchant began to unveil and describe the next sculpture, he became more excited as Hyacinth seemed moderately interested.
Then, in front of a particular sculpture, the merchant suddenly stopped, smiled proudly, and boasted in an even louder voice.
“This sculpture is particularly extraordinary, Your Majesty. I’m sure you’ll be amazed when you see it. This is a masterpiece completed over 5 years by the genius sculptor Menelang, who is said to appear once in a hundred years.”
“Hmm. Is that so? What’s the subject?”
“The Smile of the God of Beauty, Blight!”
“I’m looking forward to it. Show me.”
“Yes!”
With a broad smile, the merchant proudly unveiled the sculpture, calculating the profit he would earn from this successful delivery. However, as he suddenly gasped and his eyes widened like peanuts.
‘What is this?’
The merchant gawked at the sculpture with his eyes as wide as chestnuts. The sculpture he hadn’t seen before was standing where the God of Beauty should have been.
This sculpture looked more like it should be named ‘A Passing Person’ than ‘God of Beauty’.
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
