Calain had been walking toward La Til when he suddenly flinched and stopped dead in his tracks.

Though both were vampires, his wild yet chilling green eyes—utterly unlike Girgol’s—slowly swept across the room, moving bit by bit.

As he twitched his nose ever so slightly, like a carnivore deeply focused on scent, La Til found it so fascinating that she tilted her head side to side, following his movements.

‘Do vampires have strong senses of smell…? Is he catching Girgol’s scent? I can’t smell anything… though I’ve gotten good at detecting blood.’

As La Til watched with curiosity, Calain finally stopped sniffing and muttered,

“I feel… somewhat uneasy, Master.”

He then approached and, astonishingly, pinpointed the exact spot where Girgol had been sitting.

When Calain leaned in and sniffed the spot again, La Til clapped her hands together in quiet delight.

“Wow! Do all vampires have dog-like noses?”

Calain hesitated briefly at La Til’s phrasing before replying,

“We all have sharper senses of smell than humans, that much is true. But I happen to be exceptionally sensitive, Master.”

After casting a suspicious glance around the room, he noticed the window standing wide open and moved toward it.

Placing his hand on the windowsill, he thoroughly scanned the area below and to the sides. Finding no trace of Girgol, he turned back to La Til and asked,

“Did someone come by?”
