Married First, a Couple (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 16
After work, Tae Yeon got into Min Hyun’s car, which had come to pick her up.
Min Hyun smiled affectionately and spoke to Tae Yeon.
“Why is it so hard to see you these days?”
“I’m sorry. My husband suddenly came back to Korea…”
“Is he staying for a while?”
“It seems that way.”
At Tae Yeon’s words, the smile that had lingered on Min Hyun’s face briefly vanished. But she quickly smiled again as if nothing had happened.
“So he at least gave you permission to have dinner tonight?”
“Yeah. Because you’re my friend.”
Compared to being with Do Jun, sitting with Min Hyun—whom she’d known for so long—was incredibly comfortable. In that moment, all the tension she’d carried over the past few days simply melted away.
Min Hyun’s car pulled into the reserved restaurant.
And shortly afterward,
A black sedan headed toward the same place.
[This is the timeline separator]Min Hyun and Tae Yeon sat at a window seat, waiting for their ordered dishes.
“Why did Chief Cha suddenly return to Korea? I thought he said he’d get married and live permanently in the U.S.”
“He seems to have come to try saving KK Foods.”
“I see.”
Min Hyun nodded.
After that, although Tae Yeon said something, Min Hyun’s attention was entirely elsewhere.
A man wearing a cap, seated in a corner of the restaurant, had been staring at her all along.
More precisely, at Tae Yeon, seated right in front of her.
Min Hyun briefly recalled the black sedan that had followed her car since in front of Tae Yeon’s office.
She’d thought it was coincidence, but when that car entered the same restaurant, she began to find it suspicious.
“Min Hyun-ah?”
Tae Yeon called her again, as Min Hyun silently stared off into the distance.
“Huh?”
“Why are you staring over there like that?”
Just as Tae Yeon turned her head,
Min Hyun noticed her hand resting on the table.
Aware of the man glaring at her, Min Hyun reached out her hand.
Seeing Min Hyun’s hand approach, Tae Yeon quickly pulled hers away.
Fortunately, their hands didn’t touch, but Tae Yeon was visibly startled.
“What? What’s wrong?”
Min Hyun was just as surprised.
“Oh, I thought there was a housefly on your hand.”
“What?”
Tae Yeon briskly brushed her hand, but nothing was there.
Min Hyun gave an awkward smile and handed Tae Yeon a napkin.
“There *was* a fly—but it flew off in an instant.”
Tae Yeon accepted the napkin Min Hyun offered and wiped the back of her hand while nervously biting her lip.
“You really scared me.”
Though their hands hadn’t touched, she still worried unnecessarily—what if someone had seen that?
Tae Yeon quickly scanned the restaurant. Everyone within her view seemed absorbed in their meals and hadn’t noticed the moment at all.
Relieved, she impatiently waited for their food to arrive—
Unaware that someone behind her was glaring at her with icy eyes.
[This is the timeline separator]After watching Tae Yeon clock out, Do Jun followed her.
She hadn’t replied to his message asking where she’d be dining—perhaps she hadn’t even seen it—so he trailed her car, driven by Min Hyun, together with Secretary Choi.
They entered the same restaurant where the two had gone.

Just before stepping inside, Secretary Choi, looking worried, pulled Do Jun’s arm in the opposite direction.
“What?”
Since Tae Yeon and Min Hyun had already gone in, Do Jun was in a rush, yet Secretary Choi kept pulling him away from the entrance.
“Secretary Choi, where are you taking me?”
“Branch Chief, are you really planning to go in like *this*?”
“What do you mean?”
Secretary Choi shook his head firmly.
“This won’t work.”
“What do you mean?”
“For one thing, Branch Chief, you’re just too tall…”
Do Jun was naturally tall, but that wasn’t the real issue.
He was the kind of man whose presence alone—no matter how casually dressed—inevitably drew everyone’s attention.
After some thought, Secretary Choi spoke up to persuade him.
“Branch Chief, let’s do a quick disguise, okay?”
“Explain it clearly so I can understand.”
“If the person taking photos of Madam is who I think he is, he’d definitely recognize you, right?”
“Obviously. That’s why he dared to make such absurd threats.”
Secretary Choi struggled to calm the agitated Do Jun while continuing his reasoning.
“So if you go in like this, the guy will spot you and run before he even gets the chance to take the photo, won’t he?”
Do Jun tilted his head slightly, then nodded in agreement.
“That makes sense.”
“There’s a shopping mall on the lower floor. How about we quickly buy something, change, then go in?”
Do Jun didn’t particularly like the idea, but he had no choice but to follow Secretary Choi’s suggestion.
Even as they headed down to the mall, Do Jun’s entire focus remained fixed on Tae Yeon—
Or more precisely, on everything happening inside the restaurant.
A short while later,
Do Jun and Secretary Choi appeared at the restaurant, dressed in comfortable track suits and plain white tees, with caps pulled low over their faces.
Before Do Jun could even fully scan the interior, he spotted Tae Yeon—seated at a window table, waiting for her meal with a man. The sight filled his eyes completely.
After locating Tae Yeon, he scrutinized everyone around her, but couldn’t yet find anyone suspicious.
“Branch Chief, please don’t just stand there like a statue—follow me.”
Secretary Choi led Do Jun to a secluded corner seat.
After hastily ordering something from the menu, Do Jun fixed his gaze on Tae Yeon’s table.
Secretary Choi, meanwhile, kept scanning the restaurant, desperately searching for whoever might be photographing her.
But all he saw were families sharing meals or couples seated together.
“Branch Chief, which one of these people could it be?”
He asked again, but Do Jun gave no reply—his eyes remained locked on one spot.
Secretary Choi smiled brightly and asked,
“Could it be you’ve already found him?”
Still, Do Jun didn’t respond—as if he hadn’t even heard.
He continued staring intently, his gaze icy and unyielding.
Secretary Choi sharply turned his head—and at the end of that gaze,
Was Tae Yeon, dining with another man.
When the man seated opposite her suddenly reached out to take her hand, Secretary Choi gasped and covered his mouth in shock.
From beside him, an even heavier killing intent than before radiated.
Instinctively, Secretary Choi shrank his shoulders.
He sighed in relief as Tae Yeon quickly withdrew her hand before it could be grasped.
But a new worry crept in—what if *that* moment had already been captured on camera?
Anxiously, and without a word, Secretary Choi stole glances at Do Jun, who stared not at Tae Yeon—but at the man seated across from her.
[This is the timeline separator]The pasta Min Hyun and Tae Yeon had ordered was placed on the table.

Min Hyun transferred the clams on top of the pasta onto a separate plate—he knew well that Tae Yeon disliked them.
“If you don’t even like clams, why’d you order this?”
“I wanted to eat shrimp. Min Hyun-ah, let me remove the clams myself.”
“It’s fine. I’ve almost finished.”
After removing all the clams, Min Hyun portioned some pasta onto Tae Yeon’s side plate, arranging it neatly for easy eating.
Hungry, Tae Yeon quickly picked up her fork.
When dining with Do Jun, she always had to perform in front of Madam Choi—and thus could never fully focus on eating. Today, free from that burden, she felt far more at ease.
Watching Tae Yeon eat the pasta eagerly, Min Hyun laughed brightly.
“What’s so funny?”
“Right here.”
Tae Yeon touched the spot Min Hyun pointed to with her finger.
“No, not there—the spot next to it.”
“Did something get on me?”
“Yeah. Some sauce.”
“I’ll go check in the mirror.”
As Tae Yeon stood to leave, Min Hyun suddenly grabbed her arm.
Min Hyun rarely initiated physical contact, so her behavior today struck Tae Yeon as deeply odd.
Tae Yeon hastily pulled her arm free and sat back down.
“Min Hyun-ah, seriously, what’s gotten into you today?”
Instead of answering, Min Hyun simply lifted a napkin and reached toward the corner of Tae Yeon’s mouth.
“…”
When Tae Yeon flinched back in surprise, Min Hyun just smiled lightly, as if it were nothing.
“Stay still. Let me do it.”
She extended the napkin further, intent on wiping the pasta sauce from Tae Yeon’s lips.
At that moment—
A dark shadow fell over Tae Yeon’s head.
“What do you think you’re doing to my wife?”
It was a familiar voice.
Tae Yeon sharply turned her head—and saw Do Jun glaring with icy eyes.
“Mr. Do Jun?”
Do Jun slapped down Min Hyun’s still-outstretched hand with a sharp *thwack*. The sound made Tae Yeon jump, her eyes widening in shock.
“Remove that hand.”
A murmur began spreading through the restaurant.
Though he wore a cap and a sloppy tracksuit to conceal his handsome features, Do Jun couldn’t hide the commanding aura emanating from his body.
Everyone leaned forward curiously, wondering what was happening at Tae Yeon’s table.
“Just a moment, Mr. Do Jun.”
Clearly, Do Jun was misunderstanding the situation. Tae Yeon grabbed her bag and seized his arm.
“Mr. Do Jun, let’s step outside and talk first.”
When Do Jun refused to budge, standing firm in place, Tae Yeon was at a loss.
“Jin Tae Yeon, are you *really* friends with this person?”
The low voice resonated in Tae Yeon’s ears.
Since when had Do Jun been in this restaurant?
Today, Min Hyun had suddenly started acting unlike herself—making unexpected gestures.
Had Do Jun, by any chance, witnessed all of it? The thought filled Tae Yeon with dread.
The other diners began stirring, whispering among themselves.
Some even pulled out their phones, preparing to record the scene.
She had to get Do Jun out of here—immediately. Tae Yeon interlaced her fingers tightly with his.
Do Jun, who had remained frozen and glacial, flinched slightly—she could feel it in his fingertips.
“What are you doing?”
“Let’s just leave first. If this ends up photographed and posted online, it’ll be a real problem.”

At her words, Do Jun raised his head and scanned the restaurant.
Spotting phones aimed in their direction, he yanked Tae Yeon’s hand and strode outside.
To Secretary Choi, waiting silently beside them, he murmured an order:
“Check if anyone took photos of us.”
“Yes, Branch Chief.”
