“If anyone asks, say I called you for a meeting about a new product.”
“Understood.”
Tae Yeon hurried out of the office.
Even after the door shut with a thud, Do Jun’s office was still filled with Tae Yeon’s sweet scent.
He couldn’t help feeling pleased.
Do Jun left the company early for a dinner appointment with President Jin.
Before Do Jun’s return to Korea, Tae Yeon always left work alone. Now, standing by herself at the bus stop, she couldn’t shake off a sense of emptiness without him.
Boarding the bus that arrived right on time, Tae Yeon plugged in her earphones. The playlist, set on shuffle, started playing a sweet duet song.
Listening to the song brought Do Jun’s face to her mind.
“Why am I like this?”
The sweet confessions in the lyrics by the male singer reminded her of what Do Jun had said earlier that day.

“I said that I really like Jin Tae Yeon as a woman.”
“Because she’s a lovely woman. It seems like I’ve fallen for her without realizing.”
Her heart felt ticklish.
It was a new feeling, yet not unfamiliar, having experienced it a few times when with Do Jun.
“Is it really sincere?”
Of course, Tae Yeon knew well that Do Jun meant his words.
“Why, though?”
The first emotion she felt after his confession was worry rather than excitement.
‘Is it okay for us to be like this?’
It was not impossible, but it was an option she had never considered before, making her feel perplexed.

‘Times like these, I wish I had a family to confide in.’
She sighed at the thought.
The only sister she had was someone she couldn’t talk to about this, and her mother, Hye Sook, who seemed eager to devour her, was definitely not an option.
Staring blankly at her phone, Tae Yeon realized that it had already been two months since she had been with Do Jun.
This meant that less than four months were left of their married life.
“Time flies too fast.”
That’s why every day felt so precious.
Closing her eyes, she envisioned Do Jun’s face, smiling warmly at her.
Waking up in his arms earlier that day, she first felt ridiculous for having slept so long.
But, on the other hand, it was also pleasant.

Feeling his warmth while in his embrace.
‘I hope Do Jun comes home early today.’
She thought that perhaps his habit of speaking his honest thoughts had rubbed off on her.
With that thought, Tae Yeon focused back on the song she was listening to.
A dimly lit whiskey bar.
As Do Jun entered, an employee escorted him to a reserved room in the corner.
Upon opening the door, he found President Jin already waiting for him.
“You’re here, Cha Seobang. Have a seat.”
Do Jun sat down with an expressionless face in front of President Jin, who seemed very pleased just by the fact that Do Jun showed up.
“Have a drink first.”

President Jin poured a whiskey into Do Jun’s glass with both hands, treating him with a respect reserved for someone higher up, not a son-in-law.
“A few days ago, my wife went to see Tae Yeon. I really didn’t know about it.”
President Jin sounded as if he was wronged.
“She said Tae Yeon seemed to be not eating properly, so she even took her a packed lunch…”
As Do Jun listened, he loosened his tie.
“Cha Seobang, are you hot? Shall I ask to turn up the air conditioning?”
“It’s fine.”
And soon, Do Jun was unbuttoning his shirt.
“Why… Why are you doing this, Cha Seobang?”
Do Jun stared coldly at President Jin and then showed his back.

The deep wound was clearly visible since Tae Yeon had neatly applied a bandage earlier that day.
“Oh my. Why are you injured? Who dared to scratch your precious body?”
“Didn’t you hear the story?”
“What?”
“This wound, it almost ended up on Tae Yeon’s face.”
“Huh?”
President Jin’s hand, holding the glass of liquor, trembled.
He hadn’t heard anything about this from Hye Sook. He couldn’t imagine that the situation had escalated to the point of physical assault on Tae Yeon.
Eventually, Do Jun’s lips slowly parted.
“My mother-in-law assaulted my wife.”
“Assault?”

“When I arrived, she had already been slapped on the face.”
President Jin put down his glass, his hands shaking violently.
“Hah.”
Thinking back, it seemed so absurd that Do Jun let out a low sigh.
With cold eyes, he glared fiercely at President Jin seated in front of him.
“How could she do such a thing to her own daughter?”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
