“He said that if we find whatever is most deeply etched into the memory you lost and burn it fiercely, your memory will return. I’ll look for it myself. Just don’t forget this kindness.”

The Viscount had come home drunk before, repeating the same words over and over again, each time with a sinister chuckle.

Walter couldn’t understand why this lunatic kept him locked up in the mansion, yet still claimed he’d help him recover his memories.

‘He knew better than anyone that if I regained my memory, I’d kill him.’

If the ‘something’ the Viscount had promised to find—the thing meant to restore his memory—wasn’t an object but Edith…

Walter imagined Edith writhing in flames conjured by the Viscount—her beautiful golden hair instantly reduced to ash, her clear blue eyes slowly dimming from the thick, choking smoke.

Just picturing the Viscount laughing like a madman beside dying Edith made Walter conclude the man deserved to die, even if it meant being ambushed and killed himself.

Deciding to clear his mind, Walter rummaged through the carriage. It wasn’t easy searching a wrecked carriage that even leaned crookedly, missing one of its wheels.

Though the sight of splattered bloodstains inside only worsened his mood, he eventually found the necklace wedged in a crack beneath the seat.

The pendant was adorned with a small gemstone of unknown origin at its center. Its blue hue would have matched Edith’s eyes perfectly.

While Walter tucked the necklace into his pocket, Cassius stepped back a few paces to survey the entire carriage.

“By the way, our Viscount really got hit hard by that ambush, didn’t he?”
