As the first day of class drew closer, Edith grew increasingly buoyant with anticipation. By the day before classes began, her mind seemed entirely consumed by the academy.

“It would be nice to walk together through the school grounds once it’s time. It’ll feel different this time compared to when I came here to submit my enrollment application.”

Though Edith sat in the Crown Prince’s garden meadow as she spoke, her spirit already seemed to be inside a classroom at the academy.

“Edith. Surely there are such places even within the academy?”

“Such places?”

Edith tilted her head slightly to look into Walter’s face. Her disheveled black hair, tousled by her skirt, and her narrowed eyes somehow gave her an unexpectedly suggestive air.

“A hidden spot where passionate young men and women secretly meet—a veritable kingdom of beasts.”

Startled, Edith glanced around to check if anyone had overheard. Though palace staff wouldn’t dare question anything said by the legitimate heir favored by His Majesty, still—

“There wouldn’t be any place like that in a place meant for study, Walter. Students wouldn’t sneak into areas they’re forbidden to enter.”
