Walter had no choice but to follow her, reciting like a botanist.
“What does it mean that it becomes difficult to do outdoor activities if you eat this?”
“You’ll find out soon. It’s okay, so don’t worry too much.”
“I’m a bit curious about the efficacy. It’s not harmful to the body, is it?”
Despite the reassurance, Walter remained skeptical, and Edith shrugged her shoulders and spoke.
“You can trust me. I worked as an assistant in a clinic before being captured here.”
“If having knowledge to this extent from working as an assistant in a clinic would be enough, the empire wouldn’t lack doctors.”
“That is….”
Edith revealed a fact that had weighed heavily on her heart.
“Actually, I passed the entrance exam to the Academy of Medicine.”
“……?”
Walter was at a loss for words.
“You might not know, but it seems like you should speak more proudly.”
“I’m not sure if I can get admitted. My plans were ruined because I was confined to the mansion.”
But as long as there was hope of escape, she had not yet given up on her dream of studying abroad in the capital.
Edith spoke while examining a pocket containing Ellick berries.
“You eat this for a trick. After you eat it, you can’t do strenuous exercise or horse riding.”
Even when asked exactly what the efficacy was, Edith only told him that it was for use in a trick.
Don’t ask any more, that seemed to be the meaning.
Even when asked again, Edith only mentioned that the taste was a bit lacking.
Walter wanted to brighten her somewhat darkened expression.
“As a stable keeper, I’d like to offer one last ride to you, Madam.”
“It’s good for horse riding, but if you take out the horse, it will all be exposed.”
“Is it difficult for a stable keeper to get a horse out?”
As Walter left his seat for a moment as if to watch and see, she secretly hoped, even knowing that stealing a horse was a difficult task.
Thinking of the acceptance letter, her heart became heavy, and it seemed that nothing would calm her down like horse riding.
When she was a child, it had been the same when Isaac first let her ride a horse because he was depressed about her mother’s health.
‘In the end, I had to step on Isaac’s bent knee like a stair and come down because I couldn’t get off the horse.’
In front of her, reminiscing about happy memories, Walter brought a magnificent horse.
“I found a horse that suits the fourth madam.”
“My goodness…”
Walter’s audacity was such that he had stolen the horse of the Portrion nobleman.
Even to Edith, who didn’t know much about horses, it was an extraordinary white horse with a lustrous shine from head to toe.
“What will you do if you’re caught, Walter?”
“Isn’t it better to leave quickly before we’re caught?”
“What about the horse you’re riding?”
“The only thing that’s not thick on my body is my face, so stealing two was a bit much.”
Edith laughed in disbelief, knowing that he was resorting to shameless tricks to ride with her.
As she cautiously mounted the saddle, Walter, seated behind her, gripped the reins tightly as if embracing her. Before she could fully enjoy the elevated view, he started the horse.
When near Edith, the pleasant scent that wafted from her gradually paralyzed his senses and reason.
The horse ran at full speed from the start.
“……!”
Edith had never seen a horse run so fast, nor a person who could handle a horse so skillfully.
His sight was dark, and he couldn’t see even an inch ahead, but Walter didn’t slow down as if it were nothing.
“Wa, Walter! A little slower…….”
When she spoke with an urgent voice, he seemed to swallow dryly. His reaction made Edith more nervous for another reason.
What if they hit something somewhere? Her fear of this was simultaneous with her sensation of Walter’s body, firmly supporting her, and it was even more thrilling.
His words that the only part of his body that wasn’t thick was his face were clearly not false. Edith keenly realized this every time he touched her body.
Walter finally slowed down after hearing Edith’s pleas several times.
“Does it always run so fast?”
An exhausted Edith leaned on him a little. It was not a deliberate action but simply because her strength had drained away.
Edith’s soft blonde hair brushed Walter’s shoulder. Walter slowed down even more as he replied.
“I don’t mind the illusion that I can jump over the wall if I run fast.”
“Come to think of it, this place…….”
The horse carrying the two of them was soon passing the boundary of the mansion. It was a boundary that only two people in the mansion couldn’t cross.
“Walter, what will you do when you get out of the mansion?”
The question of how to escape from the mansion was always a concern, but the question of what would happen afterward was unfamiliar. Walter paused to think and then answered.
“First, I’ll stay with the mercenary group where Helen is for a while, then go to the capital to find out who I am.”
“There are many skilled wizards in the capital, so you might find something about the lost memory. Are you going to settle down there?”
“I think that might be the case.”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
