Gilrod paced around the room like a madman. The physician had told him to watch his blood pressure due to his age, but the heat rising inside him made it impossible to stay still.

“Sianna, that lunatic… that lunatic…”

Walking restlessly and without rhythm around the room, Gilrod kept calling out his daughter’s name. He had called it more times since being confined to his estate than he had in the past twenty years combined.

Because of that daughter, he had lost part of his territory. That land, originally belonging to the Lerke family, had been seized after the king ruled that Sianna’s assets must be returned to the Queen Consort.

That wasn’t the only problem. The news that reached him while under house arrest was something he hadn’t anticipated at all.

“Anika Rohos has donated her land to the Queen Consort.”

And reportedly, no one had opposed it.

Though the Rohos family was indeed one of the current king’s factions, Gilrod had never imagined the Marquis would do something so reckless—it was a shocking revelation.

Gilrod realized the king had planned all of this deliberately. Before making Sianna lie, he must have already struck a prior agreement to receive the territory in return.

That foolish new Marquis of Rohos would have obediently complied with the king’s demands.

Taelan Rohos wouldn’t have done something so stupid. Gilrod recalled the former Marquis—arrogant and greedy, yes, but certainly not foolish. That man’s father had been irritating due to his greed, but his daughter, who had hastily taken his place after his sudden death, was irritating because of her stupidity.

The problem was that this stupidity stood as an obstacle in his path.

When his aide reported that Anika Rohos had ceded half her territory to the Queen Consort, he added,

“We’ll start seeing surplus grain as early as this upcoming harvest season.”

“Then we’ll need to find another market.”
