“Gilrod Nevel. Before my very eyes, you used my wife’s favor as a pretext to humiliate her and ultimately cause her harm. I cannot even fathom how malicious your intentions truly were.”

The king’s words were calm, yet the anger within them was anything but trivial.

“Effective immediately, Gilrod Nevel is forbidden from entering the royal palace and shall be confined to his residence. Furthermore, since he manipulated his daughter to orchestrate all of this, the authority delegated to her as his proxy is hereby revoked. Everything Sianna Nevel should have inherited from her mother—rights, property, and the family name—shall be returned in full to her rightful owner, the Queen Consort.”

As soon as the king finished speaking, the knights who had been standing against the chamber wall stepped forward and flanked Gilrod. He was seized by the royal guards and began to be dragged away.

“Your Majesty, this is unjust! Those were false testimonies! You cannot do this to me without even holding a trial!”

Gilrod cried out belatedly, but no one responded. The king had already turned his head toward his wife seated beside him, as if he no longer cared for Gilrod at all, while the Council Elders—who had always pandered to him—deliberately averted their eyes, feigning ignorance.

Panicked, Gilrod frantically scanned the room. He had never anticipated such a turn of events. Weren’t these people always on his side…?

Then he realized there was only one person among them who was still looking directly at him. The Queen Consort leaned against her husband, who was checking her cheek and forehead, and gazed steadily back at him.

Without so much as a single blink of her clear, glass-like blue eyes.

Struck by that eerie stillness, Gilrod momentarily forgot to protest and simply stared blankly into the queen’s eyes. Yet just as he tried to truly see her, the chamber doors closed, leaving him unable to discern what lay within that blue gaze.

Silence settled over the chamber as the doors shut.

The king slowly swept his gaze over the nine Elders, excluding Gilrod Nevel. Those who had been close to Gilrod held their breath whenever his eyes met theirs.

In truth, some of them had known in advance that Gilrod would pull such a stunt in the chamber today. But not a single one had predicted that Gilrod’s own daughter would betray him or that the king would cut down the Nevel family with such ruthless precision.

It was understandable. Currently, the northern territories—including Edegroon—relied heavily on Nevel’s grain supplies. Even the royal family wasn’t exempt from this dependency. To overturn the situation would have required enacting new legislation, yet the Nevel family controlled three seats in the Assembly, effectively holding it in their grip.

No one had expected the Nevels to be toppled so abruptly in a single day.
