Right after speaking those words, Idren realized just how pathetic he sounded.

All this time, he had been living off the kindness Ophelia had left behind. And yet, here he was, saying something that sounded as if he blamed her.

There wasn’t a single fault in Ophelia’s words.

She was as clear and precise as ever. With reason and honesty, she had exposed even his softest, most vulnerable part. Her words cut cleanly, without any excess, and explanation came as an afterthought.

“I don’t know what that day meant to you, but I truly had no intention at all.”

…Not that he hadn’t already known that fact.

But unlike the rational Ophelia, his mouth refused to listen to his head. Idren soon found himself confronted by his own foolish words.

“If only you’d just walked past me, mocked me like everyone else, I wouldn’t have….”

Ah, how utterly pathetic.

He couldn’t even finish his sentence and closed his mouth instead. He thought it would’ve been better if his tongue had turned to stone.

That wasn’t his true feeling at all. Idren had never once wished he’d never met Ophelia.

Even now, wounded by her as he was, that truth remained unchanged.

Yet the reason falsehoods kept spilling from his lips was surely because the woman standing before him was being too cruel.

At the same time, Idren realized just how petty he was acting.

Trying to make his pain known by blaming the other person—surely even a ten-year-old child wouldn’t stoop to such behavior.
