As if reading Penrel’s thoughts, the King lifted his head and looked directly at him.

“I’m not just saying that out of politeness. Even I would find certain things hard to accept if I were in your position.”

Then, with a slightly relaxed expression as though making a joke, the King added,

“It’s only because it’s you that I’m giving this much leeway. If it were Salode, he’d have blurted it out without hesitation.”
