“Really, was there absolutely no sign of foul play?”

Tae Joon asked in a low yet pleasant voice, his intention unmistakably clear.

Yet Heo Kyung Joon remained silent, lips tightly shut, offering no reply. Not only that—he was so lost in thought that even though sake overflowed from his small cup, he didn’t even try to move it away.

There had to be something.

Otherwise, there’d be no reason for Heo Kyung Joon to stiffen so noticeably over just one question.

He set down the sake bottle he’d been pouring steadily until it spilled and stared wordlessly at Heo Kyung Joon. Only then did Heo Kyung Joon snap out of his daze, hastily setting his cup down and wiping the spilled sake from his hand with a nearby napkin.

In that fleeting moment, Heo Kyung Joon’s sharp gaze returned. He was finally back to his senses.

“So you’re questioning whether I handled that matter properly—whether my sincerity is genuine.”

“But if you’ve already asked that question with suspicion in mind, I see no obligation on my part to answer it.”

At Heo Kyung Joon’s firm refusal to speak, Tae Joon’s eyes narrowed sharply.

“If you asked to meet me purely for that purpose, then I’ll take my leave now. Since I have nothing more to say to you, staying here would be pointless.”

Heo Kyung Joon declared his intent in a heavy tone and rose from his seat. But immediately, Tae Joon’s voice—sharp as a needle—pricked him from behind.

“Please sit down.”

“I already told you—it’s meaningless for me to stay.”
