“Ha, is this the card you wrote?”
After a torrent of tears, Tae Joon, lying on the bed with Seo Rin, looked at the card she had written 20 years ago and let out a faint chuckle.
The card, bold and proactive in its content, was so daring and forward that it was hard to imagine it was written by the chilly and aloof Baek Seo Rin, who could send chills down your spine with just a glance.
“No way, an eight-year-old revealing her feelings already?”
He teased her, hoping that his little sister would grow up to find a handsome guy. But in truth, he was deeply touched by eight-year-old Seo Rin to the point where tears welled up in his eyes.
She wrote the card, addressing someone she had never seen before as “Oppa,” and her feelings as a young girl seeped deeply into it.
The Baek Seo Rin he didn’t know.
It was only now that he remembered the stories he had heard from his mother about her.
Seo Rin, as described by her mother, Jung Ok Soon, was a lovely and affectionate child.
Unusually, for a child her age, she had a deep love for flowers. In spring, she would spend the whole day in the garden, reciting the names of the flowers that bloomed in various colors.
Yet, even as she looked at the flowers without picking them for fear they might get hurt, her heart was too beautiful. Ok Soon said she was so enchanted by the sight of the child admiring the flowers with her eyes alone.
In Ok Soon’s eyes, Seo Rin, as she appeared in them, was simply a little angel with wounds.

“Well, it’s better to be handsome. Is there anyone who doesn’t like pretty things, regardless of age or gender?”
As she spoke bluntly with lowered lashes, embarrassed, Taehoon saw that young angel in her.
Why didn’t he know?
In reality, she wasn’t a woman of steel but a wounded and delicate soul.
So, to avoid getting hurt anymore, she was a chameleon who thoroughly disguised herself with a convincing mask.
“How do you feel?”
“What do you mean?”
“Your impressions of meeting me. Of course, it’s been 20 years since we met, but did I live up to your expectations?”
“Well… honestly, it was beyond my expectations.”
“Liar.”
“No, really.”

“No, do you remember when you first met me? No matter how many times I talked to you, you ignored me.”
Thinking about that time made Taehoon feel sorry, but this time, Seo Rin laughed even though Taehoon was teasing her.
“Yeah, that’s right. Taehoon, do you look in the mirror?”
“I do! I look in the mirror every morning and boost my self-esteem.”
“So, you know, when I first saw you, you talked to me so naturally that I thought you were a wealthy playboy who’s quite fond of women.”
“Ha…”
Stunned, he couldn’t find words, and he wasn’t in a position to refute that statement either. From Seo Rin’s perspective, she could easily think that way.
“If you hadn’t mentioned your name as Kang Tae Joon, I would have never looked back at you, no matter what.”
A single moment of irony he had never understood before. He made excuses, saying that he remembered that day because it was such a happy moment when his name was etched in his heart like magic.
But now, all those moments made perfect sense.
“After my mother’s death, I tried to erase everything, including your name, Tae Joon. But… I guess it was deeply ingrained in my subconscious, your name.”
“That’s right. When you said you looked back because of my name, I thought you were teasing me.”

“No, I was sincere. Your mother meant… a lot to me too, in a very special way.”
As she spoke, Seo Rin clung to him, and his warm body transmitted a softness to her heart.
“I… I loved your mother a lot. Thanks to her, after the accident, I, who couldn’t speak due to selective mutism, spoke again after 8 months. And she gave me my first puppy in my life as a gift. Of course, that puppy also died in a traffic accident after your mother passed away.”
“We both loved the same woman.”
“Yeah, we did. But now that I think about it, I feel a little sorry towards you.”
“What for?”
“I… I took Mr. Tae Joon’s mom away, didn’t I? Honestly, I was really difficult back then. I didn’t even want to go home on weekends because I wanted to have my mom all to myself for a week. So, there were times when I hid your mom’s bag so she couldn’t go home on weekends.”
“Even back then, you were determined to have what you wanted.”
“I’m sorry. You were young like me, and I’m sure you needed your mom just as much.”
Those words were sincere. Looking back now, I feel nothing but regret. I monopolized five out of seven days and still threw tantrums over not wanting Ok Soon to disappear from my sight for those remaining two days.
Young as I was, I endured five days of loneliness, only to spend two days with my mother.
But Tae Joon felt differently.
“No. There’s no need for that. I actually thought it was fortunate.”

“…….”
“Father used to hit Mother when he drank. But when Mother became a resident babysitter, there were fewer such moments since she rarely stayed at home. Even as a child, I felt it was better to endure the loneliness without Mother than to watch her being beaten.”
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
