Benjamin wore a proud expression as if he were bragging about himself. Jacqueline paused, eyeing the boy suspiciously.
Noticing her gaze, Benjamin tilted his head with a puzzled look. Jacqueline opened her mouth meaningfully.
“Did you perhaps tell Olivia about Fauvism?”
“Um… no.”

Benjamin rolled his eyes and quickly averted his gaze from hers.
“Actually, Miss Olivia saw Miss Somerset’s painting and started rolling around on the floor…”
William, returning with tea, interrupted their conversation. Benjamin, startled, pressed his index finger to his lips.
“Olivia saw my painting?”
Jacqueline asked casually, “Hmm.” William cleared his throat awkwardly, set down the tea, and turned away.
Benjamin swiftly changed the subject.
“What kind of place is Southfield, Miss Somerset? I’ve never been there, so I’m curious.”
“Southfield? It’s a quiet, peaceful place—a countryside village where you see nothing but meadows and sheep wherever you look. Do you like sheep, Benjamin?”
“I’ve never actually seen any, so I wouldn’t know.”

while lord preston was really hasty with his judgment on jackie, i kinda understand why he’s avoiding her since they did have the chance to talk but she didn’t really say anything so he eventually misunderstood her intentions.

Honestly, if I am in Jackie’s shoes, I would’ve lashed out at my own mother long ago. The audacity to demand so much when she’s done nothing to improve their situation.
