Roman’s eyes widened. “How did you know?” His voice, as he asked the question, carried a faint note of admiration.

“Hmph. So the Devil of the Black Fleet is still alive and well…”

“All eighteen ships were attacked in the waters patrolled by the Sixth Fleet?”

Windsor cut short Roman’s astonishment with a dry, matter-of-fact question. Roman immediately returned to a serious expression.

“Yes. All eighteen ships were heading toward the New Continent and Slen. As you well know, my lord, the Sixth Fleet’s patrol area is precisely that—the route to the New Continent and Slen. Thus, it’s a region where many of the kingdom’s hopeful ships set sail, as well as where pirates frequently ambush to steal those dreams.”

“Of course.”

Roman readily agreed.
