“Woah…”

Following the palace attendant who came to fetch me, the greenhouse I entered was nothing short of magical.

Whoever thought of filling a building with blooming flowers? The fragrance was trapped inside, making it feel like wandering within a bouquet. Looking up, the blue sky shimmered through the glass, and lowering my gaze, a whirl of colorful flowers met my eyes. However, the abundance of greenery made it easy on the eyes.

“It’s amazing, isn’t it? This glass greenhouse was a wedding gift from His Majesty the Emperor to Her Majesty the Empress. It’s a pride of the Empire.”

Whether the attendant was fond of children or just wanted to boast about the royal couple, I couldn’t tell. But their cheerful explanation deserved no spite, so I genuinely marveled.

“Quite impressive.”

While indifferent to riches, this was something I could appreciate. I deliberately slowed my pace, leisurely strolling and savoring the floral scent.

I wouldn’t be late; after all, who would criticize a 3-year-old for arriving just on time?

Despite my noticeably slower pace, the attendant did not urge me to hurry.

“Would you like me to lift you up? So you can see the flowers on the trees.”

They even offered to help, but doing something that would negatively impact my first impression didn’t seem wise, so I politely declined.

“Your thoughtfulness is enough.”

The attendant smiled broadly and slowed their pace to match mine, which must have been slow enough already due to our difference in leg length.

By the time we reached the central area of the greenhouse where the tea party was held, almost everyone else had arrived. This allowed me to notice an odd scene.

The tables, spread far apart in the vast greenhouse, could accommodate 4-5 people each, but there seemed to be no specific seating arrangement.

What was strange wasn’t the layout, but that only one table was empty – not completely, but almost. If it had been entirely vacant, people might have assumed it was left for those seeking to form acquaintances.

At that central table, only one person sat. Through various indicators like location, the quality of clothing, and the dignified way they held their teacup, I deduced this person was the Empress.

It made sense if no one else had joined the Empress’s table. Perhaps specific seating had been arranged, or it was understood that only a pre-chosen few would join her.

However, what seemed odd was that other royals appeared to avoid that table.

Excluding the Empress’s table, no other tables were occupied by just one person. Those filling the other tables seemed almost fearful of even glancing in that direction.

‘What’s going on?’

The sunlight was bright, the space warm. The air mixed with floral and tea aromas felt gentle. The sweet scent of desserts and the frills adorning formal attire added to the ambiance.

The Empress, sitting at the center, seemed like the essence of all these elements combined.

Yet, what was this atmosphere? In a situation where everyone should be flocking around the Empress, there was a vibe of avoidance, as if eye contact might lead to being dragged away.

Considering how she stopped the Emperor earlier, she didn’t seem to have a ferocious temperament.

I was puzzled and soon found the most plausible explanation.
“It seems the disparity in national power is quite significant.”

After all, dozens of countries are sending hostages without even voicing a complaint. Approaching the Empress carelessly and getting on her bad side would make it difficult to manage the aftermath. It’s understandable that they’re subtly avoiding her as if she were a plague.

However, that’s the perspective of ordinary people. I know the mind of a ruler. Rulers always want people around them to flatter them.

It doesn’t matter if they are tyrants or benevolent leaders. What differentiates them is not whether they like flattery, but whether they give excessive power to sycophants.

And while I was never a sycophant, I’ve observed them flatter the Emperor and have received flattery myself.

What this means is, I can flatter the Empress enough to please her. And since my appearance is not bad, I can please both her eyes and ears.

“Thank you for bringing me here. May I ask for one more favor?”

“Of course. What can I assist you with?”

“Please seat me in a chair.”

Saying this, I boldly pointed towards the central table. I stretched out my arm along with my finger to ensure it was visible due to my short reach.

“…Really?”

The attendant seemed surprised by my boldness to choose the Empress’s table.

“Is that not allowed?”

“No, it’s not that it’s not allowed, but…”

Would the Empress discriminate based on status to the extent she’d hate sharing a table? If so, well, I might face some embarrassment. But being 3 years old is both my biggest obstacle and my greatest shield. What can they do about a slightly tactless 3-year-old?

With unwavering determination, I pointed at the central table, and eventually, the attendant acquiesced.

“Something going on?”
