Baekryeon’s parents had died of plague when he was five years old.

By sheer fortune, Baekryeon survived along with his younger sibling, believing they would be taken in by their uncle—their father’s younger brother, after all, their closest living relative.

Though only five years old, she was as sharp as they claimed and quickly understood what he wanted from her.

“I intend to make you my successor.”

The clan head had no children of his own. Bloodline would take precedence if he had any, but lacking that, ability came next.

Thus, he searched without distinction between direct and collateral lines for anyone showing promise.

And it just so happened that Baekryeon, orphaned at that very moment, fit the bill.
