Seeing tears streaming down Melchizedek’s pale cheeks, Berken turned on his heel. It was time to return and wrap up the Huyaje ceremony.

As he crossed the empty lawn, he murmured softly to himself.

“…It’s good they seem to get along well.”

Of course, to Berken, Melchizedek was far more precious than Blanche—so much so that if Melchizedek had tried to kill Blanche, he would have helped cover it up.

But that didn’t mean Blanche was as worthless as a pebble on the roadside.

With the worry of conflict between the two people he cherished most in the world now gone, Berken’s steps back to the main hall felt light.

Blanche had been moved to the palace closest to the Grand Garden, where the Huyaje ceremony was prepared, as the palace physicians advised against moving a patient too far.

Thus, Berken hadn’t been away from his seat for very long. Consequently, he expected little would have changed upon his return—perhaps the atmosphere would simply have grown a bit calmer.

After conducting a brief initial inquiry, he’d send everyone home. He needed time to examine the incident from a broader perspective.
