Long Live the Emperor, Minus Me (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 17
His Majesty the Emperor celebrated Baekryeon’s promotion with a week-long series of banquets. Yet, as always, His Majesty’s excessive praise did not end there.
Cheongryeong had created a lake of wine—for Baekryeon, at her own residence.
This happened after Baekryeon had initially refused the fifty jars of peach blossom wine bestowed upon her as a reward.
“Haha, what’s that? How much could it really be? Surely you could drink it all by yourself without trouble?”
That was the one point on which they could never reach an agreement.
Baekryeon believed rewards should remain within reasonable bounds. Was it truly necessary to merge the positions of General and Grand General?
Not only was merging those posts already excessive, but did they really need to strip an entire orchard bare just to brew new peach blossom wine? She already had more than enough with General Shangdai’s title and its accompanying lands.
Contrary to Baekryeon’s thinking, however, Cheongryeong believed it was necessary. Baekryeon deserved such rewards—unprecedented ones, beyond what anyone else could even conceive.
In that sense, the lake made from those fifty jars of wine proved far more effective than the wine itself.
“Your Majesty, if I try to drink all that lake of wine before it spoils, I’ll surely collapse from alcohol poisoning and lose my post.”
Indeed, as Cheongryeong had said, Baekryeon could hold her liquor quite well. The problem, however, was that the peach blossom wine was infused with peaches, and the season was summer.
The wine would likely spoil within a week, and drinking all fifty jars alone would surely leave her collapsed from intoxication.
Thus, Baekryeon held banquets—after all, hosting a banquet was the perfect way to share precious wine with comrades while showing off a bit.
Ultimately, in this latest round of their endless reward disputes, Cheongryeong emerged victorious. With the relaxed smile of a winner, he pointed toward a garden tree.
“Had I known it would come to this, perhaps I should have hung a few cows or pigs from that tree as well? For side dishes.”
