His Majesty, who had withdrawn his excessive favor, was a far easier person to deal with.

“If you wish, I won’t directly interfere with the disciplinary outcome. But since I’ve come in person, it’s inevitable that the faculty will grow nervous and preemptively impose a harsh punishment.”

Well, of course. If His Majesty told the faculty not to worry about him and just administer fair punishment, it would only make things more complicated afterward.

He had gone straight to the crowded dining hall upon arrival, so news of His Majesty’s visit had surely swept through the entire academy by now.

In this situation, telling them not to punish too severely the child who fought with his playmate? The whole academy was already buzzing.

Of course, it would have been best if he hadn’t shown up at all—but since he’d already come and the rumors had already spread, it was probably best for him to simply make a brief appearance and leave.

That way, I could reasonably explain that he’d come out of concern for whether I’d been seriously injured.

“However, I’ll still summon those three separately and leave them with a warning. There are always a few particularly foolish people everywhere. If they misunderstand my mere visit as meaning I care less for you, it would put me in an awkward position.”

I assumed His Majesty would handle it well regardless, but just in case, I made a request.

“Please don’t frighten the children too much….”

Well, of course it wasn’t really necessary—but His Majesty wasn’t the type to rule through fear, as long as the other party didn’t overstep their bounds. It was only in his later years that he’d become a bit excessive.

“Now, who’s giving advice to whom?”

His Majesty was right. If anything, I was the one who rarely punished because I always took various circumstances into account—but when I did punish, I did so strictly.

So instead of arguing back, I merely corrected my wording.

“It’s not advice—it’s a request.”
