I still glanced quickly at Edmund’s ankle, still wrapped in bandages.

“Does your ankle throb?”

“It’s fine.”

I narrowed my eyes and stared at him suspiciously. The healing mage had clearly said he’d feel pain every time he walked for the next few days—so he was obviously lying.

‘He must be doing it so I won’t feel guilty.’

Feeling even more guilty myself, I let out an unnecessary bout of pettiness and brought up a topic to tease him.

“When Uncle just now spoke as if urging you to leave Duke Mipidian’s estate, you cut him off so abruptly—you must really want to live with me, huh?”

“…Isn’t that you?”

Edmund’s eyes, clear like glass beads, quivered with visible agitation.

As usual, I’d been ready to tug at the corners of my mouth the moment he showed annoyance or blushed—but this time, I was flustered along with him.

“I—I feel the same. I was just joking.”

“I see. That’s a relief.”

Seeing Edmund’s lips curl into a smooth, unmistakable sigh of relief made my mischievous urge vanish completely.

Embarrassed by my failed attempt to tease him, I scratched lightly at my neck with my index finger. He seemed to read my mood with uncanny sensitivity.

“I no longer dislike your playful teasing.”
