While weighing which option was better, Lirien immediately nodded her head.

“Yes, yes! Truthfully, I was also a bit… reluctant about informing my younger brother.”

Indeed, in her heart, she must have been anxious that I might harbor resentment and reveal this to someone.

Relieved that our interests aligned, I looked around the bedroom.

Finally, my gaze settled on the cozy-looking bed. Perhaps because the tension had dissipated, fatigue accumulated since morning suddenly washed over me.

I turned to Lirien with a weary expression.

“Lady Lirien, I’m sorry, but I’d like to rest now.”

“Oh dear, look at me! I kept you talking when you must be exhausted! I’ll instruct the maids—please feel free to call on them whenever you need anything.”

“Thank you.”

I stared at the door until Lirien had completely disappeared, then went to the bed and tugged the bell pull.

The maids arrived at a pace distinctly different from Count Bueil’s household and attended to me with utmost care.

Throughout my bath, they chattered cheerfully to keep my ears from growing bored and fed me seasonal fruits so my mouth wouldn’t feel idle.

Sitting in the tub, receiving a pleasantly soothing massage, I thought to myself—this was the finest service my body had ever known.

‘She must be treating me this well because I’m Lirien’s first guest. She’s clearly cherished.’

After drinking steaming chamomile tea, I dove onto the bed and let out a satisfied laugh.

“Ahh, I feel alive.”

I buried my face happily into the crisp sheets, eyes half-lidded.

‘Should I stay a few more days until my younger brother returns?’

Surely, I’m not the only one reluctant to leave such luxurious treatment—surely it’s just the slave of capital in me.

‘…Stop overthinking.’

Tomorrow, once the crabs arrive, I’ll sell them to a merchant, raise funds, rely on my uncle, and begin preparations for divorce.

Having carefully reviewed my plan, I blew out the scented candle the maid had left burning and turned onto my side.

The events of the past day had been utterly exhausting. Every muscle in my body felt like melting chocolate, and drowsiness crept over me. Yet as I calmly reflected on the day’s happenings, my thoughts grew restless, keeping sleep at bay. Just as I was finally succumbing to fading consciousness after a long struggle—

“You—who are you?”

A cold blade pressed against my slender neck.

I snapped my eyes open. My heart began pounding wildly at the sight of the gleaming steel stretching from my line of sight straight to my throat.

Each of my cells, previously melted into languid relaxation, jolted awake, sensing imminent danger.

Through narrowed eyes, I saw a shadowy figure flickering in the darkness.

‘A thief? An assassin? No—if it were either, they wouldn’t have asked who I am.’

I forced composure into my voice and spoke.

“And who might you be?”

Instead of answering, my visitor stepped forward through the darkness and revealed himself in the lamplight.

“…….”

For a moment, I wondered if I was dreaming.

Golden eyes with a faint crimson glint, a sharply defined nose, and elegantly closed lips formed the face of a strikingly handsome man. His silver hair, falling to his shoulders, appeared untouched by human hands for years, yet it harmonized perfectly with his beauty, lending him a wild, untamed aura.

My brief awe at his appearance gave way quickly to the realization that I was cornered.

‘…Why is this man—supposed to return in five days—here right now?’

Unless I’d suddenly developed dementia, the man before me was unmistakably Duke Mipidian, the very character from the original story who killed me.

CRASH—! At that instant, lightning split the sky.

Startled by the thunder that seemed designed to incite fear, I flinched—and our eyes met in the flickering light.

His golden eyes gleamed with savage intent.

I’m going to die. This man intends to kill me. A primal chill ran down my spine.

Even then, his gaze—sharp as a killing intent—remained fixed stubbornly upon me.

“I’ll ask again. Who are you?”

His pleasant, deep voice questioned me once more.

“Well… that is…”

Just as I frantically raced through options for survival, the door creaked open cautiously, and Lirien appeared, holding a soft-glowing oil lamp.

“Countess Bueil, are you asleep? The thunder woke me, so I thought—eep! Edmund, what are you doing?!”

“……Sister.”

Only then did his gaze finally release me, and miraculously, I escaped the crisis.

[This is the timeline separator]

After the incident at dawn, I tidied myself and changed clothes, and by then morning had already broken.

Having steadied my startled nerves, I stepped toward the drawing room but paused briefly behind the slightly ajar door.

“What should I do? If Countess Bueil gets angry and decides to leave immediately…”

Lirien paced anxiously around her chair, gnawing her nails.

Edmund, seated calmly with eyes lowered amid her restlessness, frowned slightly.

“Sister, please sit down. You’re making me nervous.”

Lirien glanced at Edmund and, deflated, sat down quietly beside him.

“Alright…”

‘So he isn’t particularly affectionate toward Lirien either.’

After observing them through the open doorway for a moment, I took a deep breath and entered the drawing room, deciding I couldn’t keep them waiting any longer.

“You’ve been waiting.”

“Oh! You’re here?”

Lirien sprang to her feet to greet me.

“Please sit, Lady Lirien.”

I ordered jasmine tea from the standing maid and took a seat opposite Lirien.

Silence lingered in the drawing room even after the maid served the tea.

Predictably, it was the overly timid Lirien who broke the quiet first.

“I’m so sorry—it was my fault. I had no idea my brother would come…”

“It’s alright, Lady Lirien.”

“R-really…?”

Lirien looked at me wide-eyed, her eyes glistening.

To reassure her, I offered a gentle smile and nodded.

Only then did Lirien sigh in relief, slumping back against her chair as if her strength had drained away.

In truth, it wasn’t alright at all.

The memory of that murderous intent at dawn haunted me, fueling a desperate urge to run out immediately.

Biting my lip in agitation, I stole a sidelong glance at Edmund, who sat peacefully sipping tea as if he’d merely stepped out for a stroll.

‘But seriously—why is this man, who wasn’t supposed to return for five more days, here right now?’

My lingering question was swiftly answered by Lirien.

“Actually, while you were in the bath, the head maid apparently sent word through the communication orb. When my younger brother heard that a stranger was staying at the estate, he decided to return early through the portal. As usual, I’m just causing him trouble…”

‘Damn that head maid.’

I ground my teeth inwardly but masked my turmoil with a practiced social smile.

“I see. Well, it’s understandable—he’d naturally worry about an unfamiliar guest staying in the mansion.”

“Thank you for understanding. Oh, right!”

Lirien lifted her half-bowed head and nudged Edmund’s side with her elbow.

“Edmund, you should apologize too. Not only did you barge into the bedroom, but you even pointed your sword at our guest.”

Edmund, who had been savoring his tea, twitched his dark eyebrows.

He set his teacup down calmly, turned his expressionless eyes to me, and exuded an air so cold and detached it seemed nothing—not even a death—could stir him.

“My apologies for the intrusion. Please forgive me.”

His voice, which had sounded eerie in the darkness, was now a pleasingly deep baritone.

I smiled sweetly and shook my head lightly.

“It could happen to anyone. I heard this bedroom belonged to the count before he left the territory. If I’d found a stranger in my own room, I might have threatened them too.”

“How remarkably considerate you are, my lady.”

Lirien marveled, painting an idealized image of me completely disconnected from reality.

Haha… I gave a hollow laugh and abruptly stopped—it was as if I’d spotted a crack forming in Edmund’s sculpted face.

Despite the misunderstanding being cleared, it was obvious he still disapproved of my presence.

‘Alright, then—how can I escape this situation quickly?’

I glanced briefly at the large window offering a clear view of the garden.

The crimson light of dawn was painting the world.

‘That’s it.’

Having found my escape route, I lowered my eyes and smiled faintly.

“I’ve imposed on your hospitality for a night. Now that it’s morning, I imagine you two must have much to catch up on… Lady Lirien, why are you standing?”

Lirien rose cautiously from her seat, and the gentle smile she’d worn faded.

She blinked her eyes innocently.

“I need to prepare breakfast. I thought it’d be best to knead the dough early if I’m going to bake bread.”

Bake bread? Why? Of all times? I’m about to leave?

The question flashing through my mind was filtered through social grace.

“Lady Lirien, you don’t need to do it yourself.”

At my subtle hint for her to sit back down, Lirien colored slightly and smiled.

“I haven’t mentioned it before, but baking is my hobby. Now that Edmund has returned and Countess Bueil is here, today is a happy day for me—I’d love to serve you both freshly baked bread.”

With that, Lirien passed me without hesitation and headed for the door.

“Wait, my lady—surely you’re not leaving just like that?”

I clutched the back of my chair in panic and sent Lirien a pleading look.

‘Please, don’t leave me alone with him.’

Lirien covered her mouth, her expression suddenly regretful.

“Oh dear! It’s terribly rude of me to abandon our guest mid-conversation. Edmund, make sure the countess doesn’t get bored—keep her company, understood?”

“It’s not that, Lirien…!”

SLAM.

Having personally instructed the man who’d tried to kill me to keep me company, Lirien vanished like the wind.

I stared helplessly at the firmly shut door—click. In the wake of the silence, the sound of glass rubbing against glass echoed.

I stole a cautious glance at Edmund and saw him seated elegantly across from me, sipping tea with refined grace.

Just sitting still, he radiated such overwhelming presence that the memory of the dawn incident chilled me to the bone.

“…….”

Slowly, I straightened my posture.

‘As soon as I finish breakfast, I’m out of here.’

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day

It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.

The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.

Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.

If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.

It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.

The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.

In the end, everything will come together and be explained.

One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!

In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.

Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.

However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.

Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.

Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?

——

Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.

His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.

Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”

——

The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.

Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!

Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!

The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…

——

But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.

The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.

She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…

Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”

Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”

Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?

[Small Theater]

The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.

Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”

Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.

Zhu Wansheng: ?

Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…

On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.

Warm breath lingers on her neck.

“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
