I walked along the vineyard with my hands clasped behind my back, desperately hiding my throbbing ankle.

I looked around leisurely at the clusters of grapes hanging heavily from the vines. Unlike ordinary grapevines, these specially bred ones stood far taller than a person.

“You didn’t seem like someone who’d trip over a single bunch of grapes—what happened?”

Edmund asked as he followed behind me.

Hmm. I raised my eyes, tapped my cheek lightly with my fingertips, then turned my head and smiled.

“It’s a trade secret.”

“Oh dear, you just thought I was being sly, didn’t you?”

“Seems your quick perception is part of your professional charm.”

“I won’t deny it.”

I smiled and turned my head directly forward—only to bump my brow against a grape cluster dangling from a branch.

Ouch. Rubbing my forehead while glancing sideways, I saw Edmund’s lips curling upward like a slash. It was unmistakably a mocking smile. When our eyes met, he quickly turned his head away.

“Even the grapes seem to be telling you to get a grip. Take note.”

He always had to add something. His tone was growing increasingly petulant—where had the dignified demeanor from our first meeting gone?

‘If you want kind words in return, you must speak kindly first… Is this my fault?’
