Edmund and I sat side by side, facing Loba.

Loba scrutinized Edmund with sharp, piercing eyes, clearly disapproving, yet Edmund sipped his tea gracefully, utterly unaffected.

Both men waited for me to speak first.

After taking a few sips to wet my throat, I set down my teacup and gently wiped the damp corner of my mouth with my fingertips.

There was something I needed to clarify right away.

“Loba, what you want is for the prophecy of the ‘Child of Dawn’ and my ‘Purification’ ability to be made public so the Temple can regain its former prominence, correct?”

“Yes.”

Loba answered without hesitation.

Just as I’d expected. At that moment, a frown creased Edmund’s brow, so I nudged his arm lightly with my elbow.

‘You knew this was coming. Relax your forehead.’

At my whisper, Edmund let out a deep sigh and softened his expression slightly.

But his glare toward Loba remained so fierce it looked as if he might tear him apart at any moment.

It was understandable that Edmund was furious—once my ability became public knowledge, I’d be pressured to demonstrate it, which inevitably meant expending my life force.

Of course, the plan was to let them parade me around a few times, then leverage the Temple’s supposed moral authority to slip away cleanly. I could even position myself as someone requiring special protection, thereby avoiding further use of my ability altogether.

But when it came to the life of someone you loved, who could possibly stay calm?
