I gracefully wiped my hands with a handkerchief, then smiled.

Tucking the handkerchief back, I turned to leave but then remembered something and turned halfway back.
Standing rooted to the spot, Lirien received a pat on her head from me.
“By the way, I think the hairstyle suits you, Lady Lirien. Don’t change yourself or give up what you like just because of people like them. Understand?”
Lirien’s mouth dropped open. After a beat, she nodded, and I smiled satisfactorily, turning away.
“Take care, then.”
And with that, I walked towards the end of the alley, a lightness in my step.
Left alone in the alley, Lirien blinked her wide eyes, still dazed, watching Ettrisha fade into the distance.
After a moment, she shook off her trance and approached the fallen box.
The paper box, now crumpled and discarded, looked miserable, just like her situation.
The pastry-making she had started as a hobby to mingle with people was also an effort to overcome her loneliness. She had thought her efforts were pointless.
Until Ettrisha ate one.
Even though she must have felt resentful. Even though she would have been the most uncomfortable person for her.
“Countess Vuiel…”
Lirien stared blankly at the box, her cheeks slowly reddening as she repeated the words to herself.
After picking up the fallen box and returning to the manor, she stumbled upon a letter from Devon on the table and gritted her teeth. Anger surged through her once more.

Even after stomping on the letter, still seething and on the brink of tears, she thought of Ettrisha.
How hurt she must have been, feeling the same intense betrayal that was burning inside her.
“But she still…”
‘I came to see you because I was worried about you.’
‘Don’t see that man anymore. You’re too precious for that.’
Despite the humiliating situation, she remained elegant and considerate till the end.
Lirien, sobbing, collapsed onto her bed, burying her face in the pillow.
‘I shouldn’t have let the Countess go like that…’
Overwhelmed with guilt, yet her admiration for Ettrisha surged like a tidal wave.

She quickly left her bedroom, calling for the head gardener as she hurried down to the second-floor hall.
