Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before it could escalate into a major disaster, and there were no casualties. However, the mansion was beyond recognition, melted down like wax, and charred black.

“Was this for a major cleaning?” I asked.

“Yes, tragically, while I was briefly away, a fire ignited due to a maid’s mistake at the incinerator. It’s fortunate that we moved out the important items for the big cleaning.”

I chuckled at the butler, who bowed before me with such a trivial excuse.

‘Do they think I don’t know that Antla is behind this?’

Behind the butler, like a folding screen, stood Antla, fluttering her dress hem as she stepped forward.

“I ordered it. Why, do you have a problem with that?”

I closed my eyes, glaring at Antla before glancing at the butler.

You…! Insulted, Antla’s face reddened as she approached, but unlike this morning, I had no patience to deal with her.

“Where are the moved items? Show me.”

I demanded with a sharp voice, and the butler, after glancing at Antla, led me to the back garden.

There lay piles of luxury furniture, art pieces, cash, dresses, jewels, and other important documents from the mansion. They couldn’t bear to burn these valuables, it seemed.

I barely glanced at them before turning around immediately. What I was searching for was not there.

“Madam?”

Ignoring the butler, I entered the mansion and headed for the second floor, despite the servants’ attempts to stop me.

That early dawn, the place where I had realized my past life.

Fortunately, the bed had not collapsed. Underneath it, my fumbling hands found a box, now misshapen like melted wax.

Sighing, I inspected the box.

‘It’s all burnt.’

The box, melted like wax, was beyond opening. Years of evidence Ettrisha had collected of Devon’s infidelity had burned to ashes.

‘These were my backup blackmail evidence in case the investigation of the will failed…’

Holding the charred, unrecognizable box, I rose to my feet and suddenly stared at the bed.

There, I saw the portrait of Count Vuiel and myself, standing side by side. Gripping the box tighter, anger welled up inside me.

A portrait taken on my 18th birthday, before Count Vuiel fell ill.

‘Ah, they took everything important, but Count Vuiel’s last portrait wasn’t important enough, I suppose.’

Grinding my teeth, I fixated on the portrait when a piercing voice invaded my ears.

“Ettrisha! Ettrisha! What in the world are you doing in a burnt house?”

It was Antla’s yelling from the first floor.

I closed my eyes, taking deep breaths to calm my rage, and then opened them, my eyes gleaming blue.

I immediately went downstairs, where Antla, accompanied by a few servants, stood askew, arms folded, tapping her forearm nervously.

A sneer escaped through my teeth.

‘She burnt down the mansion to break my spirit, and now she’s the one getting anxious because I’m ignoring her.’

Antla, with a frosty gaze, opened her mouth.

“What were you doing in the bedroom in a burnt mansion? Hiding diamonds from your husband?”

“If there were any, they’d still be there. I seem to have too many thieves around me.”

Antla flinched, perhaps feeling stung.

“You, how can you treat your mother-in-law, who rushed here out of concern, like this?”

“Really? You rushed here out of concern, not excitement?”

“Huh…! I mean… There’s a limit to being ungrateful.”

Antla sneered at me.

“I wonder why you even bothered to pick me up.”

“Pick you up?”

Antla snappily retorted, asking if she had to explain everything.
“Since the mansion burned down, you need a place to stay, don’t you? If you use a lodging facility and rumors spread of you behaving improperly, what would become of Devon?”

“Aha. So, you burned down the mansion for this reason.”

“……What, what?”

Antla’s eyelids fluttered rapidly.

Humans are territorial animals. She intended to call me into her domain, subject me to her control, and establish her dominance.

But that’s her misconception.

Did she think I’d be shocked, cry, and kneel because the mansion burned down? Did she expect me to crawl back to her because I have no place to go?

‘Unfortunately, I have no such plans.’

Thinking of the box and the scorched portrait, I sneered coldly and spoke.

“Mother, at times like this, you are truly remarkable. Being so sensitive to public opinion, you always manage to act so foolishly. Is this your way of getting attention in society?”

Realizing I was mocking her, Antla’s face reddened.

She glanced around nervously, aware that people who know her are aware of her desperation to be the center of society.

“You, this….”

Antla bit her lip and glared at me, but I had no intention to deal with her casually, as I did in the morning.

I was ready to drive home the point that she had no right to do such vile and senseless things to someone else’s precious daughter.

“Do you have any proof that I did it!”

“It doesn’t matter. Who burned down the mansion is not important anymore. And even if I have to beg on the streets, I won’t go to Count Dien’s mansion. Why should I go there?”

“What?”

Ex-husband Wants Reconciliation

One-line summary: Chasing the wife to the crematorium (making an effort to attract someone who has become indifferent), the female lead doesn’t look back, the second male lead takes the position.

Intro:

To repay the kindness of the older generation, Su Mu crossed into a female-dominated world and became a live-in daughter-in-law of the Yan family, single-handedly saving the Yan family from fire and water.

But her husband, Yan Jiyue, the eldest son of the Yan family, treated her with sarcasm and never showed her a good face.

It wasn’t until after Su Mu’s death that this pampered and arrogant young master shed a few fake tears and pretended to want to die for love.

This life’s kindness was enough. If there was a next life, she would definitely kick Yan Jiyue away.

Who knew that the heavens would be so kind as to allow her to be reborn, returning to the time when she had just married into the Yan family.

Su Mu glanced at the Yan eldest son, who still spoke coldly to her, and threw a divorce letter in front of him.

“Let’s divorce!”

***

Yan Jiyue never imagined that he would be reborn. He happily went to find Su Mu, wanting to make up for the mistakes he had made in his ignorant youth.

Wasn’t the reason the heavens allowed him to be reborn to let him reconcile with Su Mu?

But when he pushed open the door to Su Mu’s room, the person lying on the bed was another man.

Su Mu’s personal attendant, Xie Yi.

Yan Jiyue hated him so much that his teeth itched. In front of Su Mu, Xie Yi was a gentle and considerate whisperer of sweet nothings, but in reality, he was vicious-hearted and deliberately sabotaged their husband and wife relationship.

In the previous life, it was he who secretly hid in Su Mu’s coffin and committed suicide, stealing a step ahead of him to be buried with Su Mu.

Yan Jiyue’s eyes were filled with hatred as he cursed, “What kind of thing are you? Your background is lowly, what right do you have to occupy Su Mu?”

Xie Yi looked at the sleeping Su Mu and no longer pretended to be a whisperer of sweet nothings.

He proudly stuck out his belly, “I have the right because my belly is capable of giving the Wife-master a daughter.”

***

Yan Jiyue was consumed with jealousy. He spread rumors that Xie Yi had once been branded with the mark of a “harlot” on his chest.

But on the night Xie Yi cut off the flesh bearing that mark, Su Mu suddenly realized something was amiss.

“How did you know the exact moment I was poisoned? And why did you show up a month early?”

Xie Yi remained silent, blood from his wound soaking through his robes. His sapphire eyes brimmed with anguish – or was it just a flawless act?

Between a once-arrogant husband now seeking redemption, and a gentle soul willing to die for her – who truly held the darkest secrets? And could it be that Su Mu and Yan Jiyue weren’t the only ones given a second chance at life…?
