Persephone saw something similar even in Demeter’s field. The workers used a method of stepping on pedals or the like to draw groundwater up into the air.

“That would require machinery, wouldn’t it?”

However, upon hearing Persephone’s explanation, Asclepius shook his head.

“…Machinery?”

Persephone voiced her confusion.

“But didn’t you clearly build a fountain? Isn’t that machinery too?”

“The fountain I created is an invention that utilizes differences in air pressure. It didn’t draw groundwater up into the air.”

Asclepius picked up a nearby twig and squatted down onto the ground. The stiff twig quickly sketched out the shape of a fountain.

“Here, at the very bottom—should I call it the basin of the fountain? Anyway, the hollow part where water spouted from the fountain collects again—do you see it?”

“Yes.”

“My fountain requires water to be periodically added to that basin. It wouldn’t suit farming, where you need to regulate water precisely according to timing.”

Persephone let out a sigh, sounding regretful.

She had wondered if perhaps drawing groundwater up to the surface was possible, but it seemed that, unfortunately, it wasn’t.

‘Then I’ll set that method aside.’
