I've Possessed Persephone (9 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 12
Hiccup.
An unsightly hiccup echoed from Persephone’s throat. She quickly covered her mouth.
‘What should I do?’
Just a moment ago, she’d noticed silhouettes resembling messenger birds crossing the sky—now, without a doubt, the King of the Underworld himself had arrived to personally retrieve his “bride.”
The soldiers groaning on the ground were startled.
“What? Lord Hades?”
“Why are you only coming now!”
The soldiers rubbed their backs and slowly got up. Hades, who had fully removed his helmet, lowered his eyebrows.
“I was delayed by pressing matters and couldn’t arrive sooner.”
“But you shouldn’t be late for something like this!”
“I’m truly sorry.”
Now recovered, the soldiers began gathering around Hades and her.
Sensing danger, Persephone stepped backward—but Hades’s fingertips moved lightly through the air.
“Ugh…!”
The cloak covering her face flipped back in the wind.
“Daughter of Demeter.”
Persephone gasped sharply.
“Don’t run away. If you’ve done nothing wrong, there’s no reason to flee so desperately, is there?”
“…”
Persephone’s lips pressed tightly shut. She shot a quick, resentful glance at the culprit.
‘This is all your fault!’
Frustration clogged her chest like a stone.
Persephone grimaced, suppressing the urge to pound her fists against her chest.
Hades stared at her with an unreadable gaze, then pulled out a rope—like a whip or a chain—from the shadows.
Her pupils widened in horror at the sight.
‘Is he insane…!’
Every sense in her body sharpened, alert to the danger.
Her feet suddenly felt rough, as if grit had stuck to them.
‘I wonder if I still have any strength left.’
While staying wary of her surroundings, Persephone checked the faint divine power flickering within her.
‘I must’ve used more than I thought back at the Acheron River.’
Honestly, even this amount was absurdly insufficient for anything—but…
‘Ah, whatever.’
She couldn’t just surrender without resistance.
It had come to this—now or never.
Dodging nimbly through the guards, Persephone pulled out a hair ornament.
Her hair ornament wasn’t fake—it was made of real twigs, grains, and a few flowers.
Back at the Acheron River, she’d even sprouted seeds into ears of grain and blossoms.
Then surely, if she planted this twig, a tree would grow right where it touched the ground.
Darting swiftly between the soldiers, Persephone plunged the twig into the earth right beneath the fortress wall.
Gathering all her remaining strength, she cried out:
“Grow!”
The small twig, bearing only a tiny flower, began sprouting vine-like branches.
At that very moment—when everyone except Persephone was stunned by this rare sight in the Underworld—
she kicked off the now-thickened trunk and climbed the tree with the same agility she’d once used to escape Demeter.
One of the guards shouted in shock:
“H—hey! You’re going to fall!”
The slender branch swayed violently under her weight.
“Aren’t you in danger up there!”
Now the guards below were actually worrying about her.

But Persephone wouldn’t let this chance slip through her fingers, no matter what.
Ignoring the shaking, she reached the very tip of the tree, which had already grown to one-third the height of the wall.
Launching herself from the top, she clung to the fortress wall like a spider.
She deliberately ignored the cheers from below, where they kept shouting that she was clearly “queen material.”
Glancing sideways, she surveyed the swaying tree.
‘Wow, it really grew big.’
No wonder she’d felt unusually strong—her desperate will to escape seemed to have pushed her body beyond its limits.
Using a small protruding stone as a foothold, she began steadily climbing higher. Her eyes occasionally flicked downward.
‘Surely no one would actually try to follow me up, right?’
Fortunately, neither the King of the Underworld nor any guard seemed inclined—or even capable—of mimicking her antics. (Of course, she was probably the only god who’d ever attempt something like this.)
Just then, a voice called up from below:
“You—no, Daughter of Demeter!”
Persephone’s sharp gaze snapped downward.
It was Hades, the only one who’d remained composed this whole time.
“What!”
she retorted with uncharacteristic rudeness.
“Won’t you just come down!”
“No!”
“Why!”
“Because I don’t want to!”
Answering like a petulant child, Persephone kept climbing the wall.
The guards had all descended to the ground to chase her earlier,
so now there was no one on the wall above her—this was the perfect opportunity.
“Your esteemed mother must be worried sick about you!”
But the Underworld King kept interrupting, shattering her concentration.
“Why are you even trying to catch me!”
Persephone snapped back furiously—and unexpectedly, Hades shouted with unusual vigor:
“Because you’re injured!”
Persephone froze mid-climb.
What on earth was he talking about?
“You need treatment, Daughter of Demeter!”
‘Wasn’t it you who hurt me trying to kidnap me? Now you’re acting like you’ll kindly treat my wounds?’
Frowning deeply, Persephone pressed her lips into a thin line.
“Liar!”
She shrieked at the top of her lungs, as if the very idea were ludicrous.
An anxious silence swept through the crowd after her outburst.
“…”
Even the murmurs among the soldiers abruptly ceased.
Hades’s eyes widened, then his brow furrowed. He exhaled slowly and crossed his arms.
“Why do you think I’m lying!”
Persephone stared back at him, her face hardened.
Her palms were now slick with cold sweat—she could slip off the stone at any moment, and no one would be surprised.
There was no going back; only forward remained.
Her heart pounded wildly. Her mind grew increasingly frantic.
“…”
Persephone swallowed hard.
Right. Even the greatest deeds that change the world begin with a single step.
Persephone, who generally liked humankind, decided to take that step.
“You’ll do whatever you want with me!”
she screamed, squeezing her eyes shut.

“J—just like… l—l—lewd literature!”
* * *
“…”
A murderous silence fell.
Even Hades was left speechless this time.
Because Persephone’s face—flushed bright red, eyes tightly shut, shouting with utter sincerity—was simply too earnest.
Just as he began to feel puzzled by her expression, Hades’s brain suddenly caught up with the situation—and burned with heat.
‘What on earth is she even talking about!’
First that soldier calling Kore “queen material,” now this nonsense from everyone… Nothing made even a shred of sense!
‘Could the whole world be conspiring to trick me? Am I dreaming right now?’
Barely regaining his composure, Hades gestured toward Persephone.
“What are you even saying! I just told you to come down because it’s dangerous!”
At that moment, a presence stirred behind him.
Hydra and Thanatos, having finished their preparations, had quietly arrived behind Hades.
He wasn’t sure how long they’d been there—but since his subordinates had shown up, it probably didn’t matter.
Relief washed over Hades’s previously troubled face.
“Ah, right—Hydra. And Thanatos. Perfect timing. Fly up and bring that child down—”
Clang—
But Thanatos’s scythe slipped from his back with an ominous sound.
【…Hmm.】
He began staring at Hades with a very strange expression.
【Lewd…】
Thanatos’s head slowly tilted sideways.
【…Literature?】
His neck and jaw formed nearly a right angle.
Hydra shook her head in disbelief, trembling visibly.
“So… you’re not taking responsibility for what you did?”
Hades raised an eyebrow in confusion.
“I’m trying to take responsibility right now.”
“But earlier you said you weren’t bringing Kore as your bride! You even said you wouldn’t marry her!”
“That’s right. Because it’s true.”
“…Huh?”
Hydra gasped in shock, her hands trembling.
Thanatos placed a hand on Hydra’s shoulder. She brushed it off, insisting, “No, Lord Hades wouldn’t be irresponsible like that…!” and started bickering.
Utterly baffled, deep furrows formed on Hades’s forehead.
“What are you two even talking about? Didn’t I just clarify that there’s nothing special between that girl and me? Why do you keep saying such strange things…!”
“…Lord Hades?”
At that moment, the head guard approached him.
“Did you just say… that there’s nothing special between you and Lady Kore?”
Why was everything so complicated when the situation was already urgent? Suppressing a sigh, Hades turned to the guard who’d questioned him.
“Yes. There’s no relationship between us that you could call ‘special.’ I simply have business with her.”
The head guard let out a sorrowful sound. His eyes grew moist.
“Then… Lady Kore isn’t your wife?”
“That’s right. There’s no connection between us. But I still need to take her with me.”
“…”
“…Then why are you nearly crying?”
The head guard, eyes reddened, glanced at the rope in Hades’s hand.
Then, pointing cautiously at it, he asked tentatively:
“…Could it be… that you have ‘that sort’ of preference?”
“…”

“I mean… that’s why Lady Kore just now mentioned a word starting with ‘l—’ and ran up the wall, right…?”
Most Commented This Week
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.

Oh my God, poor, pitiful Hades! I hope he finds happiness with Persephone.
Oh, poor Hades! He’s so sweet. Why doesn’t anyone like him? I hope Persephone likes Hades and brings spring into his world.
Poor Hades, how can a little child be hungry? How sweet, how his expression changes upon hearing Persephone speak.
