“I need to stop the bleeding right away.”

Lea’s heart grew anxious as his blood soaked through her shoulder.

She supported Terren with her own body and walked only along the path thick with dense undergrowth. Fortunately, she wasn’t directionally challenged—once she saw a path, she remembered it precisely.

“I didn’t expect there’d be bandits.”

“They’re… runaway slaves.”

Despite his pain, Terren answered Lea’s question.

But then it began raining even harder than before. It was still early spring, and the cold made her teeth chatter.

“Just a little farther.”

Finally, the two emerged from the forest and reached a wide meadow.

“Let’s… go to that cabin on the hill.”

Lea’s voice trembled, likely from being out of breath. Supporting a large man like Terren for over an hour with her small frame had clearly exhausted her.

Lea mustered all her strength to climb the hill with Terren.

Her breath caught in her throat, but she strained not to let him notice.

Opening the crude wooden door revealed a space where, thankfully, they could take shelter from the rain. All it contained, however, were wooden planks and an old blanket.

“Sit… here.”

Lea seated Terren on the planks and quickly removed his clothes. His bare body was soon exposed, and as expected, his right shoulder was completely drenched in blood.

“The bullet went straight through.”

That was fortunate—at least she wouldn’t have to dig into his flesh to extract the bullet.

Lea glanced around.

‘I need bandages.’

Of course, there were none. At the very least, she needed some cloth to wrap around Terren’s shoulder.

Then she remembered the petticoat layered beneath her clothes and hurriedly began undressing.

“What… are you doing?”

Even amid his pain, Terren seemed startled by Grace’s actions.

But without answering, she tore her petticoat into long strips, fashioning makeshift bandages.

“I’ll stop the bleeding first.”

Lea pressed the cloth against the wound to staunch the flow of blood. But Terren’s face had turned pale, his lips blue, and she was startled by how bad he looked.

‘His body temperature is dropping.’

After finishing the hemostasis, Lea pulled a bottle of whiskey from the bag she’d brought from the carriage.

“I’ll disinfect it before wrapping it with bandages.”

“Where… did you learn this?”

“When I attended girls’ school.”

“Girls’ school? You… Grace went to school?”

“I misspoke. I read it in a book.”

Lea hastily corrected herself to cover up her slip.

She had attended a convent-run girls’ school until she was fifteen and learned basic first aid there.

Of course, that was Lea Hamilton—not Grace, whose educational background she didn’t know.

‘Keep your mouth shut, Lea.’

She couldn’t afford another slip-up.

Biting her lips inward, she wrapped the bandage tightly around the wound.

Terren watched Grace silently.

‘She’s practically a different person.’

Grace displayed quick judgment, composure, and patience—traits he’d never seen in her before.

Moreover, her hands were remarkably steady while handling the wound. Most surprisingly, she wasn’t crying in fear.

“Grace… give me some alcohol.”

Terren’s throat was parched.

“It’s not good for your wound.”

“It’s fine. On the battlefield, alcohol was medicine.”

He’d suffered injuries like this countless times and knew well enough he wouldn’t die easily.

Reluctantly, Lea handed him the bottle. Terren immediately took a long swig straight from it.

Meanwhile, Lea checked the cabin for anything she could use to start a fire.

‘There’s nothing here, of course.’

She felt like tearing the whole cabin apart just to build a campfire.

In haste, she shook out the old blanket and wrapped it around Terren’s body. The alcohol must have taken effect—he soon fell asleep.

‘He’s asleep, huh?’

Her eyes fell on his half-naked body—his firm chest and defined abs.

Even in this dire situation, his appearance remained striking, stealing Lea’s attention.

Realizing too late that she’d been staring at him as if entranced, Lea shook her head to clear her thoughts.

‘I’m the problem here.’

Her outer clothes were soaked through and unwearable.

All she had left was her corset and the shredded petticoat. She might as well take it off—though at least she still had her long underpants.

‘Brr! It’s freezing.’

At this rate, she’d freeze to death before Terren did. Lea took a deep breath and searched for a solution.

[This is the timeline separator]

Allen rose from bed and slipped on a silk robe. He poured himself a drink into a crystal glass and walked toward the window.

‘Terren Courtois claimed he retrieved Lea’s body and collected her personal effects.’

He’d heard those words from the bishop after Terren and Grace had left on the day of the funeral.

Those effects must include the necklace—the key to fully claiming the Hamilton Trading Company.

‘Did he not consider me Lea’s next of kin? That look in his eyes was truly irritating.’

Eyes as sharp as a black panther’s. His overwhelming presence was enough to make others cower—it infuriated Allen.

Worse still, he’d clearly read Terren’s wary expression directed at him.

‘Damn it! Of all people, why did that bastard end up with the necklace?’

Allen downed his drink in one gulp.

Truthfully, he’d long heard of Terren’s reputation. He was Rubec’s hero, heir to one of the most prestigious noble houses, and possessed astronomical wealth.

‘Grace Bizac—I heard she’s his fiancée.’

His expression shifted instantly—from irritation to something sly.

Honestly, Grace had surprised him greatly. A rare beauty these days, with elegant speech, deep sensitivity—her very presence resembled a blooming freesia on a spring day.

Yet, she also possessed a strangely alluring charm that stirred a man’s instincts.

‘I should look into her.’

For the first time in his life, he felt desire for a woman.

Lea Hamilton was intelligent, but… how to put it? Too domineering.

Her appearance never appealed to him, either. She was far too clever, and like her merchant father, she understood political currents all too well.

‘That’s why I disliked you, Lea. You arrogantly tried to surpass me.’

Allen’s gaze drifted toward Sarah, lying on the bed.

‘Keeping someone so vulgar as a mistress is beneath me. Only someone like Grace Bizac would suit my dignity.’

He decided he needed to create another opportunity to meet Terren and Grace.

[This is the timeline separator]

White gunpowder smoke billowed upward. Mountains of soldiers’ corpses lay scattered, their stench of blood overwhelming.

Even as Terren moved his men’s bodies, he felt no sorrow.

‘What right do I have?’

He pitied only the soldiers who’d been cursed with such an incompetent commander.

Terren looked upon a world painted entirely in shades of gray.

‘Hell isn’t far away.’

He stood in hell itself. At that moment, a bloodied hand grabbed his ankle.

‘Save me! Because of you, we died!’

Countless corpses reached out, wrapping their arms around Terren. No matter how hard he struggled, they refused to let go.

‘Why must only we die? Why send us to hell!’

The dead soldiers’ cries crushed Terren mercilessly.

Then, right before his eyes, Aiden appeared—completely drenched in blood, missing one leg.

‘Terren, did you deliberately push me into certain death?’

‘No! Aiden!’

Terren screamed. Instantly, the mountain of corpses rose and advanced toward him, reaching out with grasping hands. They tightened their grip around his throat.

“I never meant for you to die!”

He shouted toward the storm-filled sky. And then—was it a miracle?—light began piercing through the dark clouds.

“It’s not Duke Courtois’s fault.”

The voice, warm as sunlight, gently broke through.

Terren faintly opened his eyes. Grace was there, cradling his face in both hands.

“Your men’s deaths weren’t your fault. War isn’t fought by one person alone.”

“Grace…”

“Because of you and their sacrifice, peace has come to Rubec. If you hadn’t fought, even more would have died—children, women, the elderly, and the breadwinners who protect them.”

“But… Aiden died because of me.”

“That was Aiden’s choice, not Duke Courtois’s fault.”

Her hand gently wiped away the tears gathering at the corners of his eyes.

“You gave your all in battle and restored peace. So please, don’t blame yourself.”

Terren stared at Grace, dazed.

At first, he thought he was still dreaming—but the sound of rain outside persisted, and they lay together under the same blanket, half-naked.

Only then did he realize he’d been crying out in a nightmare.

It was the first time anyone had witnessed such vulnerability. He knew without looking—he’d probably babbled everything aloud in his sleep like a sleepwalker.

“I know it’s impolite, but to survive tonight, we have no choice. Please endure the discomfort.”

Lea wrapped the blanket tightly around both herself and Terren, pressing her body close to his.

At this moment, their shared warmth was the only thing keeping them alive. Soon, her small head rested gently against his firm chest.

Not only that—she wrapped her slender arms tightly around his waist.

‘Hah!’

Terren felt a deep knot inside him suddenly unravel. His lungs, once choked with suffocating smoke, finally cleared.

His soul had always been trapped in the murky smoke of battlefields—but now, at last, it broke free.

Yet, he couldn’t understand why his nose stung and a wave of sorrow welled up inside him.

That tiny woman was comforting him—something he’d never received from anyone, anywhere.

If he thought about it, he’d never truly sought grand encouragement.

He’d always borne it alone.

No one had ever dared speak those words to him because of who he was. What he’d desperately longed for, in the end, was simply sincere comfort.

Terren pulled her close with his left arm, as if afraid a white dove that had just landed on his shoulder might fly away.

“Duke Courtois is a good man. You’ve never harmed anyone.”

Lea had unintentionally glimpsed his torment, but her desire to comfort him was genuine.

Terren had never made anyone unhappy. He, too, was a victim of war—a wounded soul suffering deeply because of it.

‘The real sinner is Lea Hamilton, who, blinded by love, drove herself to death and even sent her own father to hell.’

Words she could never say to him. Unaware, Lea began to cry.

“Don’t cry, Grace.”

Terren’s hoarse, gentle voice enveloped Lea.

‘I don’t even deserve to cry. But enduring this pain is just too hard.’

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.

In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.

When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.

She makes his life a living hell.

And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!

Intro

Dong Xia lost her memory.

Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”

Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.

…

The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.

She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.

Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.

No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

*

Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.

The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.

In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.

The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.

And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Notes:

1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.

2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
