Interest Compounds on Revenge (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 48
Lea was dragged by the officers to the police headquarters.
No matter how much Pauline ran over and protested to them, it was useless. They merely repeated that they were just following orders from above.
Pauline began to cry as she watched Grace being taken away by the officers, and Lea tried to reassure her.
“There must be some mistake. Tell Terren.”
“Yes, I… I will.”
Pauline immediately got into the carriage and headed straight for the Ducal Residence.
Meanwhile, Lea was taken away in the officers’ carriage to some unknown place—a dark, lightless location she’d always assumed she’d never have anything to do with in her life.
A high wall of red bricks was topped with a tangled mesh of barbed wire, likely meant to prevent prisoners from escaping.
“Attempted murder? What on earth is going on?”
No matter how she tried to make sense of it, the situation made no sense at all.
Yet as soon as she stepped into the dark, narrow corridor, fear washed over her.
The overhead lamp, dangling precariously as if ready to crash onto her head at any moment, looked dangerously unstable.
There were so few lights that if she didn’t stick closely behind the officer ahead, she’d surely lose her way.
“Excuse me, there’s been a misunderstanding. I’ve never tried to kill anyone.”
Trembling with fear, Lea kept explaining herself to the officer. But he remained silent, walking forward without a word.

Xin Jiao Zhou: “???”
He fell ill.
She came to see him, bringing breakfast.
As she put down the breakfast and was about to leave, his hand slipped while holding the spoon. “Clank!”
She turned around upon hearing the noise.
He looked up at her, his eyebrows drooping: “My hand… has no strength.”
“Shall I… feed you?” she asked tentatively.
He opened his mouth cheerfully: “Ah—”
Thinking she was drowning, he jumped in without hesitation to save her, but nearly drowned himself. In the end, it was she who swam over to rescue him, giving him air underwater.
After emerging from the water, his ear tips turned red. He lightly brushed his cheek, tucking his sideburns behind his ear, revealing delicate, pink-tinged ear tips. He lowered his gaze, too embarrassed to look at her.
Xin Jiao Zhou: He’s truly beautiful, kind-hearted, and adorable.

I don’t understand, if she is trying to save the twins, why is she putting a gun to her head? She needs to be alive for the twins to survive.
This is sounding less like a punishment and more like a privilege.
Sometimes this novel’s inability to reflect anything close to realism frustrates me. Let’s reward arson and attempted murder! (Can’t help but point out the lack of creativity with Mr. Baker’s name.)
