Late in the evening, Leah came to the church. The place where her funeral was held. Since it was almost suicidal for a woman to wander the streets alone at night, she sought the safest place.
People came to pray even at dawn, so the church doors were never closed, allowing Leah to enter.
Leah clasped her hands and closed her eyes.
‘Why did I leave the duke’s house?’
Her plans had been foiled, and the revenge that had filled her heart dissipated like smoke. She should have gone to Galdencia with that momentum.
‘Is it over if I die with Allen?’
Leah began to doubt her own revenge.
She questioned whether this was really the revenge she wanted.
Shouldn’t she expose Allen and his cohorts’ schemes to the world, reveal the truth, and clear the Hamilton family’s name?
‘Killing Allen is obvious, but what sin does Grace’s body bear?’

She had promised her. Not to tarnish her honor.
‘I think I was too hasty.’
How was this different from a moth blindly rushing into the flame? Losing her reason upon hearing the sale of Hamilton’s general store was the root of her trouble.
‘Allen spent years working to snatch away the Hamilton business.’
Yet, she didn’t understand why she thought everything would end with Allen’s death.
Even if Allen disappeared from the world, nothing would change. The Hamilton family would still be a house accused of treason.
‘Why don’t you try? What good is it if you’re only led by emotions?’
Leah despised herself. At least, before killing Allen, she should have let him know why he was dying.
She could go to Grace’s body and shoot him. But even in his dying moment, he wouldn’t realize or regret his mistakes.
‘Is this the revenge you wanted, Leah Hamilton?’

Leah clasped her hands and sobbed.
‘Father, I miss you.’
She ached for him more than ever today. And she was ashamed. Her method of revenge was nothing but shooting with a stranger’s body.
Not even knowing how to load a bullet, she was just bluffing, driven by anger.
‘What should I do now?’
Leah was at a loss. Her vengeance boiled over like lava, but there was nothing she could do.
The worst part was that she couldn’t reveal her identity to anyone.
Tears streamed endlessly from Leah’s eyes.
‘Father, I can’t live without taking revenge on Allen.’
But she didn’t know how to exact that revenge.

Allen was no longer the poor nobleman of the past. He was a wealthy man, holding the mighty McDowell Trading Company.
How could she, a woman with nothing, stand against him? She saw no way forward.
Terrun tapped his fingers on the desk, glancing at the clock.
The bell rang, signaling midnight.
As he stood up, Luke brought over a cloak and helped him into it.
“The imperial court will be in uproar if they learn we’ve sabotaged the railway.”
Luke grumbled.
The directive Terrun had given him yesterday afternoon was still unbelievable.
To trap Grace, they had not only sabotaged the railway but also declared a state of emergency in Levon City.
“If they find out, it’s because you’re not skilled enough.”
“Is that so?”
The consequences of destroying a few railway tracks were significant.
There would be no trains departing from Levon station for a few days, and the same applied to carriages.
Terrun passed through the lobby to get to the carriage.
“Do you know where the lady is?”
“Obviously.”
He answered brusquely and boarded the carriage.
Luke shook his head as he watched Terrun ride away from the duke’s house alone in a carriage.
“Just grab him.”
But this time, he truly understood.
What Terrun’s feelings towards Grace were.

And that he too, had a surprisingly strong obsession and desire for possession when it came to the woman he wanted.
Then, James approached Luke.
“A person like the Duke just finds it hard to start. Once he acknowledges his feelings, he will love like he is in a war.”
“That’s true. I had a bad feeling when he said he would blow up the Rafa building.”
Luke felt sorry for Grace.
Did she know? That she could never escape from Terrun for the rest of her life.
As the carriage stopped in front of the church, Terrun got out without hesitation.
The Grace he knew wasn’t the kind of woman to spend the night in a hotel or station.
Of course, the old Grace wouldn’t have taken such an extreme action either.
As he opened the church door and entered, he saw the familiar back of a woman.

Why did she look so fragile and small today? Terrun slowly walked towards where Grace was, but stopped after a few steps.
‘Is she crying?’
He couldn’t move, as if his feet were glued to the ground, hearing Grace’s sorrowful sobs.
He couldn’t understand why she tried to leave him and was crying with regret.
That was a big question. It seemed Grace had a secret.
And the suspicion he initially had resurfaced.
Whether she was really the Grace he knew, or if another soul had entered Grace’s body, turning her into a completely different person.
Was such a thing even possible?
In fact, he had shaken off such torment when he went to meet Aiden. He decided to like her just as she was.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
