“We need to stop the bleeding fast.”
Leah’s heart raced as her shoulder became soaked with Terran’s blood.
She supported him with her body, choosing paths thick with underbrush. Luckily, she remembered the way precisely, having been through it once.
“I didn’t expect bandits.”
“They’re escaped slaves,” Terran replied in pain.
The rain started to pour harder, chilling them to the bone in the early spring cold.
“We’re almost there.”
Finally, they emerged from the forest into a wide meadow.
“Let’s go to that hut on the hill.”
Leah, gasping for breath from supporting the much larger Terran for over an hour, used all her strength to climb the hill with him.

Trying not to show her exhaustion, she managed to get them inside a shabby wooden hut. The only furnishings were wooden planks and an old blanket.
“Sit… here.”
She quickly stripped off his clothes, revealing his bare body covered in blood from the gunshot wound on his right shoulder.
“The bullet went through.”
Thankfully, she didn’t need to extract it.
Looking around for bandages, Leah realized there were none. She then remembered her layered petticoat and hurriedly took off her clothes.
“What… are you doing?”
Terran, bewildered even in pain, watched as she tore her petticoat into long strips, creating makeshift bandages.
“I’ll stop the bleeding first.”
As she staunched the wound, she noticed his pale face and blue lips.

‘He’s losing body heat.’
After stopping the bleeding, she pulled out a bottle of whiskey from the bag she had grabbed from the carriage.
“I’ll disinfect it before bandaging.”
“Where did you learn this?”
“At a girls’ school,” Leah replied, then corrected herself, “I mean, I read it in a book.”
She had attended a convent school until she was fifteen, where she learned basic first aid.
Of course, that was Leah Hamilton’s history, not Grace’s. Whether Grace had attended school was unknown.
‘Shut up, Leah.’
She couldn’t afford more slips of the tongue.
She wrapped the wound with the makeshift bandages, all while Terran observed her in silence.

‘Completely different.’
Fast decision-making, calmness, endurance – qualities Grace lacked. Her hands were skilled in treating wounds, and she wasn’t crying in fear.
“Grace, give me some whiskey.”
Terran’s throat was dry.
“It’s not good for your wound.”
“It’s fine. In battle, whiskey was our medicine.”
He had survived many injuries like this and knew he wouldn’t die easily.
Reluctantly, Leah handed him the whiskey bottle, and he drank it straight.
Meanwhile, Leah looked for anything to start a fire.
‘As expected, nothing.’
She wanted to tear the hut down for firewood.
Instead, she settled for wrapping him in the old blanket. Drunk from the whiskey, he soon fell asleep.
‘He’s asleep, but…’
His half-naked body caught her eye – his strong chest and defined abs.
Even amidst the crisis, Terran’s appearance didn’t lose its luster, capturing Leah’s attention. Realizing she was mesmerized by him, Leah shook her head to clear her thoughts.
‘I’m the problem.’
Her outer garments were soaked and unwearable. Now she only had a corset and her petticoat, which was torn into strips. It would be better to take it off, but at least she had long underwear.
‘Ah! It’s cold.’
She might freeze to death before Terran. Leah took deep breaths, trying to figure out what to do next.
Allan rose from his bed, donning a silk robe. He filled a crystal glass with liquor and walked to the window.
‘Terran Kurtoa, he collected Leah’s body and her belongings at the funeral.’

It was something he learned from the bishop after Terran and Grace had left the funeral. That belonging must be the necklace. Having it would mean fully owning the Hamilton trading company.
‘He doesn’t consider me Leah’s family, does he? I hated his gaze.’
His eyes were like those of a black panther, intimidating and annoying.
Above all, Allan sensed Terran’s wariness towards him.
‘Damn it! Why did such a person end up with the necklace?’
Allan gulped down his drink.
He knew about Terran’s reputation. A hero of Lubeck, belonging to a prestigious family with astronomical wealth.
‘Grace Visak, I heard she’s his fiancée.’
His expression changed momentarily from annoyance to something more intriguing.
Honestly, he was quite surprised by Grace. A rare beauty with dignified speech and rich sensibility, she was like a spring day’s freesia in full bloom, yet with an allure that stirred a man’s instincts.

‘I should find out more.’
It was the first time he felt desire for a woman.
Leah Hamilton was smart but… too intense.
He didn’t find her physically appealing, and she was too knowledgeable, closely following in her merchant father’s footsteps.
‘That’s why I disliked you, Leah. You were too arrogant, trying to surpass me.’
Allan’s gaze drifted to Sarah, lying in bed.
‘Keeping someone like her as a mistress is one thing. But someone like Grace Visak suits my stature.’
He pondered creating another opportunity to meet Terran and Grace.
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
