“Please sit.”

Count Violet sat before me, with the Countess and Elia taking their places on either side.

Ginger, who had somehow already brought fresh black tea again, poured the tea. I noticed the Countess flinch slightly as she picked up her teacup, sensing my furrowed brow.

“Is this really freshly brewed? It’s far too bitter—I simply can’t swallow it.”

Ginger’s face instantly twisted with wounded indignation, her eyes clearly insisting she had steeped the tea properly this time. When I glanced away, the Countess, meeting my eyes, frowned and set her cup down.

“To serve such tea—what terrible manners.”

After scolding Ginger, the Countess widened her eyes and cooed sweetly.

“Perhaps it’s because she’s just a maid—her skills are truly lacking.”

In truth, while Ginger’s tea couldn’t be called excellent, it certainly wasn’t bad.

I, who am not particularly sensitive to tea flavors, honestly couldn’t tell much difference. The Violet household surely knew they were grasping at straws, yet they were too preoccupied with watching my reactions.

It wasn’t out of guilt—they’d spent so long spreading malicious rumors about me that now, having fallen out of favor, they naturally sought even the smallest crumb of favor.

Right now, no matter what I said, these two would agree with me. Of course, not everyone was like that. I turned my gaze away from Elia, whose lips were still pouting.

After Ginger left the room again to re-steep the tea, I sat silently without speaking. The Count and Countess grew visibly restless, anxiously observing my mood.

The Count, seemingly unable to find the right words, cleared his throat awkwardly and finally began with difficulty.
