“What’s going on? What happened?”
In the pitch-black darkness where not a single ray of light entered, I stood up in confusion. Then, waving my hands, I tried to move but bumped into something and ended up crouching.
“Where is this, exactly?”
Rubbing my chilly elbow, I frowned, and at that moment, I heard footsteps from outside. As I remained silent, the sound of footsteps approached.
“It looks like you’re awake now.”
The familiar voice was…
“Jinjer Roal, you!”
I turned towards the direction of the voice. I fumbled around with my hands, trying to find the doorknob, but it only rattled, indicating that it was locked. Beyond the door, I could hear Jinjer’s grumbling.
“What’s going on? Won’t you open this?”
Sylvia was with me just a moment ago. What could have happened?
“Don’t tell me Sylvia is involved in this too?”
“Well, isn’t it time for you to worry about other people? You still haven’t grasped the situation, have you?”
Jinjer clicked his tongue. Sylvia, who was so excited about preparing everything, came to mind. It seemed that she had taken advantage of the moment when I was away.
‘Darn it, I let my guard down.’
“If I move, do you think you can stay quiet here?”
Though I muttered quietly, Jinjer pretended not to hear.
“I’ve never done anything like that to you. Do you think Lady Bee will trust you to go to the First Prince’s palace after you betrayed her?”
“Hey, open up! Won’t you open it?!”
Frustrated, I grabbed the door and shook it roughly. I felt anxious as if Jinjer might leave me behind at any moment.
“Did you get approval for the transfer to the First Prince’s palace?”
He already knew the fact I heard just now. Why does this palace spread rumors so quickly?
“So what?”
“How could you betray Lady Bee, who treated you so well? Are you even human?”
“Hey, I’m going because I want to!”
Even in this situation, hearing such words made me shout unintentionally.
Laughter mixed with several voices, indicating that other maids were also present. After all, Jinjer couldn’t have moved me alone.
“I thought I was going to die moving you. I didn’t want to go this far, but why did you make people suffer for days?”
If it was going to be so hard for days, couldn’t you have given up?
‘Ha.’
A sigh mixed with a bitter laugh escaped me because of Jinjer’s unnecessary persistence.
“If I go out now, will you leave quietly?”
I muttered, but Jinjer acted as if he hadn’t heard.
No matter what I said, Jinjer didn’t budge, and in frustration, I grabbed and roughly shook the door. I felt uneasy, thinking he might leave me behind at any moment.
“Why are you making a fuss like that? If you committed a crime, you should flatten yourself like a dead mouse. Are you still acting like a noble lady?”
Jinjer vented his anger for a while. But it was better to hear someone’s voice, even if it was like that.
“Anyway, don’t feel too unjust about the procedures that former palace servants usually go through. Jinjer seemed to be organizing his thoughts as if he had said everything. I quickly knocked on the door.
“Just a moment, just a moment! If you pull me out of here, I’ll give you the bracelet I have. It’s incredibly expensive!”
“Do you think I’m stupid? If I let you out, do you think I won’t know you’re planning retaliation? Where did you sell the drugs?”
Darn it, have I been too naive all this time?
While anxiously thinking if there was no other way to catch Jinjer, she spoke up.
“Don’t worry too much. I’ll pull you out until you go to the First Prince’s palace. Until then, don’t make a fuss and stay quietly inside there. Well then, I’m leaving.”
Jinjer chuckled as if he was relieved.
“Hey! Hey! Jinjer, you annoying brat!”
Although I desperately raised my voice at the gradually fading laughter, there was no sound of footsteps returning.
And finally, as only a silent stillness flowed, I leaned against the door and sat down hesitantly.
Somewhere, I heard a squeaking sound. Startled, I turned my head, but there was nothing visible.
A sense of fear overwhelmed me as I was left alone in perfect darkness.
“If I just get out of here, I won’t leave you alone for real.”
Considering the echoing voice, the space seemed quite vast. I hugged my knees against the chilling sensation rising from my toes.
The offer to pull me out before going to the First Prince’s palace wasn’t a matter of one or two days.
The thought of staying like this for a few days made me feel more and more overwhelmed and anxious.
“Ah, it feels so refreshing.”
Jinjer, who had been chuckling at the dispelled pent-up frustration, quickly bowed his head when he encountered Eileen.
“Is she well confined?”
“Yes, Lady.”
“No one saw her, did they?”
“No, she wasn’t seen by anyone.”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
