I regretted not reading the side stories, which were told from the perspectives of characters around Floria.
Considering their discussion, ‘that thing’ Shanna and Floria were looking for must be an object that amplifies magic. They appeared to have some sort of deal about it, and since Shanna followed Floria into the castle, it must be inside.
As the puzzle pieces in my head clicked together, I felt justified in my investment in romance novels.
‘I need to find out what they’re talking about. If things get tough, I can trade the heart.’
Keeping an eye on them would likely reveal what they were searching for.
‘And I need to be more cautious around Shanna.’
The thought of her being able to erase memories was terrifying.
Glad to have gained unexpected insights, I was about to leave when my name came up in their conversation.
“By the way, did you check the note found in Reneeola’s room?”
‘As expected!’
I clenched my fist. That day, I saw something in Ginger’s hand as she left my room. It was a note outlining the flow of the original story. As expected, she was not just a follower of Floria but also her operative.
“Yes. But it was impossible to decipher. It’s not an ancient language, dead language, or from another continent.”
Of course, it couldn’t be deciphered. It was written in Korean.
‘I wouldn’t carelessly leave important things around for someone who is hostile towards me.’
I prepared for such an event by writing in Korean, and it was a brilliant move.
“It certainly looks like a code. I will continue to investigate.”
“Wouldn’t it be better to just kill her now? Then we wouldn’t have to worry about it.”
No, don’t! Please care! Please keep caring!
I silently pleaded while clinging to the wall, uneasy at Floria’s indifferent expression.
“Let’s wait and see for a bit longer. Every time that person causes trouble, the praises for Your Highness increase. There’s already talk among the maids and servants.”
Oh, Shanna actually being useful to me was a moment to be slightly grateful for.
“But every time I see that face, I get so angry. It’s no fun if she’s too comfortable in the castle.”
“What if you do this?”
“What do you mean?”
“Isn’t there Count Palong among the Second Prince’s secretaries?”
“Ah, you mean that scoundrel?”
“Yes. You could pair him with her.”
What? Count Palong, as in that insane Geoffrey Palong? Are they talking about pairing that pervert with me?
“Marrying them off? That’s a brilliant idea!”
I internally screamed at the sight of Floria giggling with amusement. It seems I have one more reason to escape this cursed original story as soon as possible.
SPLASH!
Engrossed in scrubbing the stairs to forget the disturbing conversation I overheard in the garden, I froze as a sudden splash of water drenched me.
“Huh.”
Staring at my soaked clothes, then lifting my head, I saw Ginger looking down at me with a smug expression.
“Oh dear, sorry. I didn’t see you there.”
Her insincere apology, accompanied by a mocking laugh, was the epitome of pettiness. I stood up, dripping wet.
‘Really? On top of my already troubled mind, this is like pouring cold water on it.’
Although Ginger’s childish torments weren’t new, today they seemed especially irksome.
“You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”
Brushing my dripping hair back, I glared at her.
“No. Why would I purposely spill water?”
“Why? To harass me, of course.”
As I stepped towards her, ready to grab her by the hair, she stepped back, startled. Just as I was about to reach her, a voice came from behind.
“What’s going on here?”
It was Floria’s voice.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
