“Elaime…?”
Elaime looked down at Ivelia, who was sitting hesitantly, with a pitiful gaze.
Though Elaime desired earnestness, the current situation and the expression were never what she wanted.
Even the joy of being summoned suddenly in the water realm was short-lived.
The aura of the summoning circle was too thick, and besides, the summoner’s condition seemed extremely unstable. Moreover, with the summoner swaying unpredictably, it wasn’t hard to realize that the situation had reached an extreme.
If Ivelia were to call her someday, Elaime wanted to appear in the most splendid way possible, but such concerns were now irrelevant. Elaime responded to the summon without hesitation, appearing without any reservation.
Ivelia looked up at Elaime as if seeing her only lifeline. The earnestness in her blue eyes was indescribably deep.
“Elaime, no, are you the king of Undine…?”
“Undine is no different from my child.”
Elaime raised her voice to respond to Ivelia. Elevating her words for both the initial greeting and the inquiring response was a long-awaited courtesy toward the contractor.
Upon hearing a definite answer, Ivelia approached with quick steps, grasping Elaime’s garment tightly. Her voice, trembling and in disarray, pleaded desperately.
“P-please… Help us. Please. Even if you take my life, it’s okay. Please save my mom, my younger sibling, and everyone.”
As if fearing that the small hand gripping tightly might somehow be hurt, Elaime gently moved to withdraw her garment.
“No! Don’t go! Is it because we’re lacking? I’ll find a way somehow. If it’s not enough with my life, I’ll provide something else. Please, please… save my world…”
Ivelia abandoned all traces of pride and begged. This was a place where she was born, a space completely filled with unwavering affection. To her, this place, these people, were equivalent to the entire world.
Even if I can no longer stay in my world. It’s still fine. If this place can remain intact and not be shattered. If it can become a flower garden instead of a tomb.
Without rejecting the hand reaching out, clutching her garment with a choked voice, Elaime bent her knees and lowered her body.
Intense blue eyes met eyes even lighter blue.
“Ivelia.”
“…….”
“Let’s make a contract.”
There was no room for curiosity about how Elaime knew her name. Ivelia hurriedly nodded.
“Yes, yes, I will. Then…”
As she vigorously nodded, a warm and large hand touched her head. Suddenly, Ivelia thought it felt familiar. As if she had felt it at the end of some despair, it seemed strangely familiar.
“There’s no need to plead or ask me for anything. Just be true to your name.”
“Name…?”
“You are my only covenant.”
In this case, my little contractor seems to know what to command. Elaime, who whispered softly, slowly rose and turned around.
A water barrier, left to prevent interference with the meeting with Ivelia upon summoning.
Inside, two demons were striking down something that looked transparent from the outside with demonic expressions. They seemed to be shouting something, but the sound was blocked, and only the sound of water gushing was heard.
Elaime, who had unintentionally exerted force, let out a small sigh and gently wiped Ivelia’s eyes with a, “Ah, you’re still a child. You don’t need to see such things.”
“…It’s okay.”
“I am your contractor.”
It was what Elaime had been waiting for all this time, to shield what shouldn’t be seen and block what shouldn’t be heard.
Elaime once again gently wiped Ivelia’s blue eyes.
Elaime, who smiled quietly, distinguishing the closed-contract holder, stepped outside the barrier and faced the two demons. Ivelia remained inside the barrier.
“It’s been a while since I dealt with demons.”
The polite tone addressed to the contractor disappeared in an instant. Originally, aside from Ivelia, Elaime had never used polite language with any other beings.
“Dare to snatch my prey!!”
Andras rushed forward with an angry expression. Whether it’s the King of Spirits or whatever. Demons generally feel a sense of rivalry towards strong opponents.
If the difference is overwhelming, one might feel an instinctive fear, but the being before them was the Spirit King, a demon that no one had ever faced in battle. As difficult to gauge in power, fear was also minimal.
Blocking the descending crimson-burning sword with one hand, Elaime asked, “How’s that elusive guy doing?”
“What?”
“Ah, since sounds don’t penetrate the barrier, it doesn’t matter if I say the name. Agares.”
“The ruler of the Eastern Demon Realm…?”
Elaime smirked.
“Now he goes by such a pretentious title. Seems like he’s adapted quite well, huh?”
“H-How did he…?”
“He’s abandoned the Demon Realm! He’s attached himself to the Spirit Realm!”
Elaime chuckled with a sense of disillusionment. Betrayal. Attachment. Those were the words furthest from the Agares she knew.
“Nonsense. He doesn’t attach himself to anyone. He’s the one who receives punishment due to his rigidity.”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
