“Your Highness, you were rash.”
“….”
“I’m not blaming you. It’s only natural that the princess is under the crown prince. So what do you think?”
“She reminds me of my brother. I want to have her, Mother.”
The thrill of destroying something perfect.
Doesn’t that sensation run through you, incomparable to anything else?
Upon hearing Edwin’s response, Empress Venaka fluttered the gorgeous fan she was holding a few times.
“If our crown prince wants her, he should have her.”
Even if it’s to destroy her.
Even if it’s to destroy her in the process of taking her away.
It’s only natural to have her.
[Star Icon][Star Icon][Star Icon]The two childhood friends left the palace corridor and went out towards the central garden.
For about the 5 minutes of walking, Ludwig kept sneaking glances at Evelia, pretending not to.
‘Damn.’
He wanted the palace to leave good memories, so he had prepared things that the ground thief liked, hoping his little friend would visit often, but it was completely ruined from the start.
‘And I couldn’t even save her properly.’
In the fairy tales he had read as a child, a cool guy always appeared out of nowhere saying ‘Can’t you put that hand away right now!’ and saved the lady from danger.
That also failed.
His little friend was a child who knew how to fight her way out on her own.
‘Why does she have to be so cool?’
Indeed, his friend was more of a light to follow than a flower to protect, and more of a member of the Artina family than a lady.
‘She looks so petty now.’
Her friend, who was walking with a stride, trying hard with her short legs, and with a pouty face as if she was still upset, looked so different from the friend who calmly responded in front of the Empress and the Crown Prince, he doubted if it was the same person.
The gap was funny and cute, and as he was about to laugh out and hand over an apology, Evelia opened her mouth first.
“Ugh! So annoying! There’s garbage in the palace too!!”
The first word she spat out, her cheeks puffing up with anger, was ‘garbage’.
Ah, even in this situation, the ground thief’s use of language was extraordinary.
A beautiful smile finally hung on the lips of Ludwig, who had been watching.
“I apologize. It’s a big piece of garbage and it’s not easy to get rid of.”
“No, if it’s such a big piece of garbage, there’s no proper trash can. I was about to smack his wrist off, but I held back thinking about our Gomchi waiting at home.”
Evelia, who was strutting forward without knowing where to go, stopped walking and suddenly turned around.
“I couldn’t even say hello to the food thief because of those big pieces of garbage. The food thief’s house must be very large, there must be a lot to see! Can I look around for a long time? Until late?”
“As long as you want.”
As long as you stay, it’s good for me.
“Your Highness, the Crown Prince. If you go this way, it’s towards your office, how about showing the princess around your office first?”
Ah, the chief servant.
Indeed, the chief servant who has been in the palace for a long time was different.
He had cleaned hard to show the ground thief, in fact, he had been wondering how to naturally take her to his office to show her around.
“The office!! Food thief, no, Louis, no, Your Highness the Crown Prince….”
Evelia, as usual, was about to call Ludvig a food thief, but quickly covered her mouth with both hands, startled by the term of endearness that followed, and corrected it to Prince Ludvig while watching the head of the servants.
The head of the servants met her gaze, thinking the princess might need something, but Evelia began to misunderstand greatly when the head of the servants stared at her.
It seemed like I already called him a food thief earlier.
‘Damn, I’m doomed!’
They might take me away for blasphemy and lock me up in the underground dungeon.
They might tell me to catch and eat rats in the prison for the rest of my life without food.
“I said His Highness the Prince. If you heard food thief, you misheard. The pronunciation is similar for both…”
With a pale, terrified face, she babbled on with absurd excuses.
“Ah!”
Then she remembered the contract she had signed with the Prince’s friend.
“I, I agreed not to be locked in the underground dungeon. Not to be spanked, not to be executed. Right?”
Tell the head of the servants quickly. Quickly.
He keeps looking. He keeps looking as if he’s going to capture me.
Playing the drum and the janggu alone, watching here, then there.
Looking at his busy little friend, Ludvig eventually burst into a low laugh.
The head of the servants, who saw the genuine smile that lifted both corners of his small master’s mouth for the first time, tried hard to gather a surprised expression.
“That’s right. Head of the servants. Do not punish this child no matter what happens.”
Even without these words, neither the head of the servants nor Emperor Kallail, who heard it, would have punished Evelia, this was entirely Ludvig’s consideration to make Evelia feel at ease.
The head of the servants who knew him also lightly nodded and bowed his head.
However, the words continuing from the small master’s mouth were not light at all.
In the significant words that could be said to contain quite a lot if they contained meaning, the head of the servants had to chew on its intentions several times.
“She is the only child who doesn’t have to show respect to me for life.”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
